Who's your favorite pump player and why?

Who's your favorite player? What makes this guy or girl stand out? I know its tough to choose, but if you had to pick just one, who would it be?...Maybe its their behavior off the field that sets them aside from the rest....Maybe they're a great roll model or always willing to help out a newbie. what ever it is, lets recognize them. Post away

All pump players I've met so far, never once met one who wasn't chill and helpful. If I have to pick I'd say Earon Carter, one of the nicest guys I've ever meet and the trunk of his car was like pump heaven with all the parts he had.

a guy named todd. ever since the local field opened there was a guy with a pump who was a regular and he was the only one around. he was really good too. once i got into pump i found out he worked for CCM and he got me parts cheap and installed and tuned everything for free. one time i had a problem i didnt know how to fix i called him and he had me meet him at the field the next day. spent an hour of his time fixing it. couldnt ask for a nicer guy. hes the kind of guy that sets a great example

Agree with JT, Manny is a well rounded person. Great competitor on the field, loves to help others on and off the field, and he puts together one of the best pump days I've been to. He's all about the sport and promoting it to others. for Manny

Me. I haven't met any "famous" pump players to have a "favorite." Matter of fact, I haven't met any new pump players for quite some time...

For me this is a very difficult question. I look at all the players i have the opportunity to meet and so many stick our for so many different reasons.

Are they the best baller individually?
Or the best teammate?
Do they have the best atittude on and off field?
Do they embrace others in the sport and try to foster the future?
What have they given back to the sport?

all of these are important for me because i think we find that true pumpers aren't only about skillz on the field, they are about the game, the sport, and promoting honor amongst pumpers.

So for me, after thinking long and hard about it, i came down to a two way tie:

In no particular order,

Sal Briguglio- This dude is like the Obi Wan Kenobi of paintball. Yes he was around during the clone wars...and by that i mean when there were a thousand nelson clones as the norm. He is constantly about promoting the sport as a positive ambassador and has stories galore.

next is Mike Masushige aka Hard8Mike. This guy is one of the best examples of what is right in paintball and is one helluva baller. In 06 when a small group from TN was bright eyed in cali for our first "big" tournament, Mike personally took us aside and gave us some great tips that have helped us enormously. We've formed a great friendship with him since and are constantly amazed about his knowledge for the game, and i don't think anyone would question his skill level.

others of mention would be:
Tim D. from TG- one of the best motivators i've played with, and is always about having a head-chopping good time. Best team captain i've balled with and against.

Devin S. I've seen this dude do some amazing things on the field. I might lose some dough, but i wouldn't bet against him.

and realize that my level of exposure doesn't put me around many from the west coast powerhouse teams very often. and so the westies' allstars may be unknown to me.

of course Obatake, and also there was this one cat from Flipped Out back in the day...Milo (i think) from what i remember, that cat had mastered the art of the bunkermove better than many others.

I have to agree with jeffwilson on this one on many of his points. Choosing your favorite player involves so many factors to weigh out that it’s impossible to choose just one.

However, personally, I believe one of the most important aspects of choosing a player in which to respect is not so much field aptitude or even influence on and off the field but simple longevity in the sport. People who have been doing this for over 10 years, having gone through the beginnings of the sport of paintball and the dramatic shifts into semi automatic play. Then having the audacity to keep playing pump despite these changes in ideology and sticking with pump through the good times and the bad, I think deserves ALL of our respect.

In the grand scheme of things, we pumpers at present are all riding on the shoulders of those harbingers of the sport who have literally been there from the beginning. They were the ones who were promoting pump before any of us even stepped onto a paintball field. They were the ones who continued to play pump even when the vast majority of players in their local fields were sporting the latest in microchip technology. And now, as pump enjoys an incredible growth in numbers and popularity over 20 years after the first paintball markers were mass produced, these “old school” players (whether they are playing now or not) should be given their dues.

So, if I were to choose one player, I’d have to pick Mike Abbott of team Blitz. And I admit there is a bit of favoritism because he is a teammate, but I know from getting to know him over the past several years that he’s “been there and done that” when it comes to pump and paintball. No matter what the passing seasons bring, he’s always dedicating himself to the sport by playing in tournaments (against people half his age no less), coming out to practices and promoting the sport of pump to the newer generations that are coming into their own.

Others who I’ve grown to admire would definitely be Mike Masushige, Tim Yip, Glen and Mike Chon and Derrick Obatake for their leadership and longevity in the sport. The shear knowledge they have for the sport both technically and historically is of great value to us. We should all be indebted to their determination and resolve to further the sport of paintball and specifically pump. Of course there are many more whom I have unfortunately never met who deserve the same respect. These are just some names in my limited experiences in paintball that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so far.

So, here’s to you Real Men of Genius… you Predecessors of Pump! Your incessant pumping one ball at a time rain or shine, despite torn knee ligaments and broken up teams has made it possible for all of us to enjoy the pump paintball we play today! So we salute you, you Kings of the 10 Round. Because without you, we’d probably all be shooting way too much paint out of a semi to do what one good shot out of a pump can do!

EK
