Speedballers and parking lots

I've been meaning to post this story to get feedback, so here we go.

Last weekend at the field, we pulled in, paid our admission to my local field, and made our way back to the car to grab gear and paint. In the 5 minutes we were away, someone had shot my brother's car just above the windshield. The only field close to the parking lot is the speedball field, and I checked the netting afterwards. No holes.
So, that brings on the idea that someone either shot it accidentally or on purpose. Some of the speedballers at that field are kinda jerks who hate to be split up when playing recball, and win every game after doing so. Words have been said, and we've come to the conclusion we just really don't like eachother. And if it was shot by accident, A) why was someone's barrel sleeve off B) why not go check it out, and tell the person who had just pulled in?

That brings me to the feedback portion of this story. Has anyone ever had something like this happen? And more so, has anyone had issues with speedballers refusing to be broken up and as such creating an imbalance on teams?

I have had this problem at my local field. But it wasn't speedballers. It was some punk *** rental kids. They shot several cars including a Maserati and the field's store. Their parents just thought it was funny that they were shooting cars and wiping/not calling hits during game.

I'd be willing to go with that story if the car was anywhere close to the net, it was a good 50' away and the paint hit above the rear window and sprayed all the way over the hood.

it's entirely possible to be a ricochet if it hit the bunker correctly, I had it happen to me when I started playing, parking lot was directly across from the deadbox maybe 75 ft away from the netting, hit my car when I was sitting in it and no one was around, saw it happen at the psp event in chicago back in 2007 too. Not trying to condone someone shooting cars at all, it just might have been an accident

The odd shot on a car in the lot is part for the course. A bunch of shots maybe not. Paintballs do funny things. Unless it seems to happen to one your groups cars (only) on several occasions I wouldn't think too much of it.

I was standing next to my car parked by the speedball field one time and had a ball bounce off of the bunker and come over the net to hit my car.

About 15 years ago, youngest bro and I were bored walking around this empty outlaw field and when there was finally other players, they didn't let us be on either team. So we snuck into some bushes and took both of the teams out just messing around. They didn't know what happened until we told them.

Came back to the car shot up with paintballs (it had a 50 dents in it already from hailstorm damage), but the stupidest thing was they snapped off my radio antenna. Dude, it's not like we lit them up or anything. Whatever. I suppose we were being asshats, but I don't understand the weird overkill on revenge.

From then on, I stopped talking about how many people I eliminated, even if it was an entire team. People are too vindictive.

I've seen cars get his in the parking lot. Balls will ricochet off the bunkers and fly over the top of the netting. Sometimes they'll hit the aluminum roof over the staging area right outside and sometimes they'll fly even further and hit a car.

My only question was it a lot or just one hit? If it was a ton of paint then I would suspect it was done intentionally. But If it was one hit it was probably a stray that got away from the airball field, seen that happen many times at my old field.

Like others have said, my money is on it being a ricochet. In any given speedball point there are thousands of paintballs being fired. Extend that over a full day, and it only takes one errant one for that to happen. I've seen it happen that far out.

As for the team imbalance issue, first step in my book is talk to the refs, if that doesn't help then take it to management, and if management is unresponsive tell them you and your friends will take your business elsewhere if they don't rectify the problem. And if they still don't, go play at a field that manages their field and treats their customers better. Speedball and recball can coexist if correctly managed and the right culture is cultivated.

If it was ONE shot it was far more likely a ricochet or accidental firing. No need to get all upset over it

I reffed a 10-man tournament at an area field a bunch of years ago. Knowing there'd be a lot of players parking in the usual parking area adjacent to the fields, I parked kind of in the boonies, away from where everyone else would be. The inflatable bunkers, throughout the day, bounced a bunch of shots up, over the netting, exactly to where I'd parked. Naturally, it was seriously hot and sunny that day. Never did get all the paint etching out of that car.

I've had my car shot as a result of people throwing paintballs in the air and trying to shoot them. If they miss the paint goes over the net and hits whatever's on the other side.

No one can tell you for sure, but this was almost definitely from stray paint bouncing off of the inflatable bunkers. You'll notice at any paintball field you go to that the veteran players or regulars are always parked far away from the fields.. Unless they don't care about a beater or something.

Think of it just the same as baseball or softball - you never park anywhere close to the field on any side. There's always the chance of foul balls or home runs so keep your vehicle away from the perimiter. Same deal for paintball.

The bounces off the airball bunkers happen at my field too. It is quite normal and nothing at which to get pissed.
