I found a torrent that works and u get the full game, so i downloaded the Pball mod and it said ti will show up in the games list when i restart steam,I dont even have steam,is there anyway i can get around this, Or will it work if i have the torrent version then download steam?

The torrent you downloaded was probably the old WON version of Half-Life, which is no longer supported. You'll have to cough up the $9.99 to buy Half-Life through Steam.
