The less... the better?

Well, I only have just over a week before I leave for BCT. Pretty excited now. Couple of questions. I believe I will be going in as an E-3 paygrade, because I passed the APFT, basic task list, and referrals; but does that mean I will also wear PFC insignia or just get paid as E-3?

Also, I started to make my list for things to bring today but have been researching and a certain amount of people recommend bringing nothing and purchasing anything you need at the PX. Is there anything I can't purchase at the PX, or shouldn't and would need to bring with me? Right now I'm leaning on just showing up with the clothes on my back. Will I need to bring my original birth certificate with me or will I be good since they already have a copy in my packet?

Thanks for any responses.

Bring basic **** like soap, toothbrush/paste and shaving stuff, maybe a small towel. It might be a few days or a week before you get to the PX and you don't want to be the stinky kid.

Well, yeah. I'm not one of those guys luckily, haha. I plan on being pretty anonymous, I'm not going to try to be a squad leader or try and stand out in anyway. I will to be going to the O side after college so it's in my best interest to keep my mouth shut and stay middle of the pack during basic.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.

Any idea on what the barracks for BCT at Fort Knox are like? How many guys will be sleeping in one room?

Yeah, basic hygiene, paper/pen/envelopes. everything else will be provided, from undies, to socks, to pt shoes. Bring shower shoes, towel/rag. dont bring any supps at all, not even vitamins. youll get a chance to get that later.

oh, army breifs suck, freeball.

Reception anywhere from like 40 to a bay, or like four-8 in a room. When you get to basic the barracks are about 7-8 people or so.

Get used to sleeping a lot in reception and not a lot at all in the training. You will sleep on racks either on top or below, get good at making your bed in reception and research how to do it on about.com so you don't have to waste time making it or have a retard teach you at reception how to do it wrong.

I still wear my tanny panties, their free underwear.

I also agree. I only wear underwear when I'm sweating my dick off in the field for long periods at a time. Other than that, freeball'n is the way to go, even in civvies.

My reserve job is an 88M... but I'm a split op so I won't do AIT until next summer. In the meantime I will be a SMP Cadet with my reserve unit. I'm one of those ROTC a-holes haha.

It's kind of cool though because I get to go to Fort Knox for basic, Fort Leonard Wood for AIT, and then Fort Lewis for LDAC. Then when I get commissioned who knows where I will be/go. I've never really that many different states so it will be cool. Although, I hear Kentucky sucks, but it can't be much much worse than Maine.

Have fun at knox. But when you leave there, stay away from the River Girl Lounge, It is the first place you'll pass on your way to louisville.

Yeah, good thing I'm non-deployable. I know what you're saying though. Really ****ty MOS for what you get for a bonus. My unit (the 619th out of Auburn, ME just got back from being deployed). I didn't get to pick my MOS really. I decided to do this route so late we had to take the first cancellation that opened up.

Non-deployable...haha. Sounds great until you realize that you'll NEVER be taken seriously until you have a combat patch. Even htough 90% of the pogues with "combat patches" haven't seen anything but the inside of the DFAC.

It's not like I don't want to be deployed. It's so I can get my butterbar before deploying. All ROTC contracted cadets are non-deployable because ROTC is priority. If I branch infantry and we are at war, there's a good chance I'll get my combat patch pretty quickly.
