I highly doubt it. I haven't heard of a team there in my 3 years of college paintball.

NCPA regulars from michigan.

SVSU
Western
Central
U of M

All other clubs in michigan seem to be dismantled or dormant currently in the NCPA.

yeah a lot of schools "had" teams over the years. Many have not stood the test of time.

From my experience its a little bit of everything you mentioned.

-Time- many of us are working full time and at school full time. I know personally i only get to practice every other sunday. Its all my schedule allows (considering drive time/cost to the field).

-Cost- Now with my school we have a great program that allows us to attend events at minimal cost to students. Other schools also fund tournaments and such. Where the problem lies is Practice costs, initial purchases of gear for new players. Its tough for people to grasp the concept that if they want to play tourny ball its gonna be a few hundred dollars to get set up.

There's a lot that goes into being on a college team compared to a regular team. School comes before any paintball team and its tough to find a balance sometimes.

heres the big problem: turn over.

ive worked with the GVSU team for over 10 years, and thru 4+ club presidents.

the problem is when the current pres moves on, usually there is no one to take the reigns and keep things going. its a constant rebulding process.

there's enough interest in EVERY COLLEGE. it usually takes a bunch of work that few are willing to invest to see it through.

just so you know, TC Paintball will work with ANY College/University/ School that wants to put a club OR team together.

contact me if interested!

I would agree succession planning is usually lacking in college paintball teams. That's why alumni needs to be integrated into activities and kept up to speed for years after graduation. The more people that know about your team the better so cutting them off upon graduation just because they cant play in the NCPA anymore is the wrong move. Yet, it happens because "they are no longer part of the team".

I think college ball is fantastic and my experiences over the last few years is lucky to say the least, but until its a school run sport there will always be challenges. Maybe one day we will considered an academia sport with recruitment, coach, scholarships but for now having a tight nit club and building relationships with field owners who genuinely care is the best option to try and create a lasting club.

They play in the Midwest north (Wisconsin) tournaments not Great lakes. Two years ago they did come to the tournament at CRU tho.

Michigan Tech is actually one of the first and longest running college paintball programs in the country. The school allows them to own and operate their own field and run reball inside during the winter.

Everyone forgets about the boys up north.

Didn't forget just know you guys like to play in the Wisconsin tournaments instead of MWGL. Which with the drive I don't blame them.

I forget but for NCPA can't you play for a college team even if you attend another school? such as Community College or a School that doesn't have an established team? I go to Northwood and wouldn't be apposed to checking out the svsu guys since its so close

Last I checked you have to be on the same campus even. For instance UM-Flint and UM-Dearborn guys can't play with us UM-Ann Arbor guys.
