Are Tippmann's still the stuff of legend ?

Back in the day of Pre-electro, Tippmann's were know as the workhorse of the paintball community...you could drop them in water or drive over them with your car and they would still shoot. Are they still like that ?... I am asking this because my son Turns 10 this summer and I want to get him his first marker and since my first 1 was a 68 special I felt it fitting to get him a Tippmann for his first marker

Tippmanns are still the best all around marker you can purchase. I've been playing for well over 10 years and I still prefer my Tippmanns to other markers.

virtually indestructible! my A5 and X7 have been in the mud, snow, rain, dropped, smashed off trees and covered in spray...AND STILL SHOOT THROUGH ANYTHING. great investment.

tippmanns are still fairly indestructible, get him a nice 98 custom so you dont need to worry about the cyclone. Although there are quit a few much lighter and more comfortable to hold guns out there that are nearly as durable tippmanns that you may want to consider.

or just get him an a5 so he wont worry about the batteries and/or getting a cyclone, etc.

granted 98's are good guns, but i think he would be much more happy overall with the a5

well, I'm assuming he's playing woodsball. If yes then yeah go with a tippy or a BT.

The new Carver One is pretty nice, depends on how much you wanna spend.

as far as a platform to mod your brains out...the a5 wins hands down. as far as an a5 with a tuxedo on...buy an x7!

Honestly I would NOT get a 98 though. They are supprisingly expensive for what you get. The Carver, Salvo and Alpha Black are 98's (the Internals are the same) with a better and MUCH more functional look and feel and cheaper to boot.

True, but it depends on what style your going to play. If its woodsball or scenario or you just want a mil-sim marker then indeed a Carver or Alpha Black would be golden. But if you arent looking for the mil-sim look then 98 still leaves you that uber platform to with as you please. all depends on how you plan to upgrade it.

keep in mind the size of the marker, the 98 is the same as the rest of the guns mentioned (internally) the outsides of the other ones are just beefed up to look cool (if you like that) and they are big, you said your son is 10.... make sure its not too big for him to maneuver before you buy it. i wouldn't say 98's are expensive when your local place will probably sell used ones in great condition for around 75, i know my local place has a brand new one for 75 (but only one left for that price)

Last weekend the game was on and the rain started to fall. Within an hour most everybody was lending out their backup tippmanns for those with less fortunate markers. And the best part about that is all of us that lent out our backup tippmanns were saying how most of those were our first markers. You buy a tippmann for life.

this is my concern as well, something smaller and lighter yet basically still unbreakable like a vibe or mg7 might be a better choice for the youngin. and if you need a tank or other stuff for the guy, keep an eye other on here for peoples signatures, we like to put our gear bag sales there.

All I have to say is that the Tippmann A-5 is one of the best gun out there for someone that does not have a lot of money to spend on a gun but can do upgrades to it later and have dependability...
