Further proof the NFL is the new national past time

Was reading my SI today, read that the draft attracted 8.2 million viewers, more than any other sports program on that day including baseball and a Lebron James playoff game.

Get owned.

I'm confused about the boxed wine comment. That's an American thing. Bagged milk is not.

The milk comes in a thin bag and you put it in a "udder"

Its a lot cheaper than buying it in a carton. But people don't drink straight outta the bag. Well, actually one guy I knew did but he was a total downie and would hang outside a 7-11 drinking bags of milk while he was wasted.

i can buy into it meaning something over basketball since it's playoffs, but I'd be surprised if a once a year event didn't beat out early season baseball.

and just for the record:

2007 yearly regular season attendance:

NFL: 17.3 Million
MLB: 79.5 Million

You can't compare by numbers alone, the NFL has 16 regular season games, the MLB has 162. I would HOPE baseball would have more people in attendance throughout a season.

Look at it this way, it means more people want to go to baseball games, if NFL games always sold out you could argue that the numbers are being limited because everyone that wants to go can't, but that's not usually the case. You said ya can't compare numbers alone, but this whole threads basis is number of viewers.

If you ask me the entire debate is stupid, here is a good article i read a while back

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/01/sp....19835372.html

To me the title is something that can't be taken from baseball, it's a matter of tradition and history, not TV ratings and whatnot. But don't get me wrong, I love me some football just as much as I love baseball.

I'm not arguing for or against either, I don't personally care what is considered Americas "pastime." I'm just saying overall attendance numbers aren't really going to tell you much considering the huge difference in number of games played in a season between the two.

How could it not be taken from baseball? Past time would be something you enjoy doing to pass time, similar to a hobby. And comparing NFL attendance numbers to MLB attendance numbers is stupid. Even at the "empty" NFL games there are triple the amount of people as a MLB game.
