If you are flying amarr, the Harbinger can be a awesome ship. not quite as easy to fly as a drake but it can get some whelp dps and decent tank
and cruise to BC is the only way to go.. i suggest you stay in the BC until you can fit all Tech 2 mods on it. then you can look at getting into a BS.
Agreed. The jump from BC to BS isn't nearly as staggering as the jump from, say, a cruiser to a BC (at least as far as tanking goes), but it is the longest.
For example, in order to fit an Abaddon with full T2 gear, you'll first need to be able to fit a Harbinger with all T2 gear. It will take you a while, but at least flying in T2-fit battlecruisers while you train up your heavier skills for a BS means you'll still be flying in some respectable ships.
Also, for a pvp BC, the drake is great for tanking. The thing, when properly fit, can be a ****ing ***** of a shell to crack. Check out some killboards to see how much of a ****kicking they can take. Plus, if you get some respectable missile skills, it can also deal out some pretty decent dps. A fleet of them scares me, but I feel pretty safe when I'm in one myself.
Even for a small-banded roam it's nice to have logistics support. I can fly a neatly-fit guardian, but it won't help much if we ever get together for a shield-tanked roam.
