Yea thats my usual strategy at the moment is to just wait for my guys to land then warpin at 50km and eat the snipers. Ive been using a nano/shield buffer omen which works pretty well for it and is fun to fly, only problem is that its basically useless if you get caught in the middle of a fight. Goes down pretty quick.

Rule #1: Never fly a ship you can't afford to lose.
Noob tips:
-You can't use a joystick or otherwise manually control your ship, only point in the direction you want to go with the mouse.
-Watch the Newbie Chat. Most of the questions you might come up with will be asked there and you can learn a lot without posting the same question as 40 other people.
-When in doubt, run.
-Don't try PVP until you've got a decent hang of the game.
-Scamming (to a point) is acceptable in this game, so is ransoming, stealing, and a lot of other stuff.
-You're going to feel confused and disoriented for a while, that's normal.
Useful resources:
Battle Clinic - Features a loadout browser where you can see how other players fit their ships and get ideas for how to fit yours. ( http://eve.battleclinic.com/)
EVEMon - A downloadable tool that is great for planning out your training schedule for months ahead.
EVE Fitting Tool - Downloadable fitting tool you can use to experiment with fitting ships.

Also keep in mind that the first month or two of the game is pretty boring because you cant really do too much and you are still training all of the basic skills. However it doesn't really take long to train into a decent ship!

Try to get into a corp as soon as possible. They make those first few weeks much more bearable, and you'll also be able to learn a lot in the process. Many corps will even subsidize the basic skills and ships for you so you don't have to worry too much about losing them.

Had a class on life in 0.0 today. Even though it was mainly focused around nullsec, they also answered general questions on PVP, EVE, etc. It's a Teamspeak recording about 1 hour and 55 minutes long, so the download is a bit large (110MB). Well worth it though in my opinion.

Flying manually by double clicking where you want to go is a form of art! It can make a difference if you are flying an interceptor and trying to keep another inty tackled at a certain range so you can kite them. Its pretty easy to mess up someones orbit around you and tackle them.
Also I moved all my crap to highsec! I am getting pretty good at logistics now. Also if I posted a screenshot of my hanger it would make most people drool

So you're no longer hanging out in nullsec? Or are you just basing out of highsec but still have your POS and things like that in null.

TCF offered to let us live DKUK so I am moving up there. We are even building another station to match the refinery in DKUK. TCF is the best!
I am gonna be living in Venal and it will be fun! (edit: venal is the guristas home region and its next to deklien, which is where TCF lives. Venal is -1 trusec everywhere!)
Anyway, I had to move all my crap to highsec and then to my lowsec system. Then I can use my rorqual and carriers to move my stuff to Venal!

Yup they are frenchman! TCF is pretty cool and are chill to play with!
I also dropped a midpoint pos to use as a protection for my cap ships when i cyno in fuel or whatever I need from empire. Couldn't find any decent moons so I am using a tungsten. It will make enough to cover fuel at least. Its pretty far, I will burn 12k isotopes each way
its worth it though. I just pay empire prices for anything I need and I can import fitted ships easily, as well as any modules or ammo or whatever else I need.

I only ever do security missions, so they're just blowing stuff up 95% of the time. But this one is the L3 variant of a long, annoying drone mission that's normally done in a small gang. So doing it alone simply because I didn't want to turn it down and lose standing sucked.
Most people with battleships or better do L4's to make easy isk.

I don't mind doing them, but what sucks is trying to get enough standing first. I'm still doing L1 missions, and it's mindnumbingly boring. Then again, this is EVE right?

Yea EVE can be pretty boring. However the exciting parts more then make up for it.
Also I actually found a decent open moon in venal while searching for a place to drop a ratting pos. Its a chromium and I shat out a small pos on it. It will make about 90m isk a month after fuel but the main purpose is to serve as a goon ratting pos!

Main reason why it's so boring for me is because I've already got Battlecruisers trained up, and money isn't too much of an issue. So the missions are so trivial, but I still have to do them before I can make it up to the next level agents.

I'm still new to things, but I think if you join up on higher missions with other players, they can share the standings gains with you. Try hopping on with people doing L4's and it will go a lot faster. Right now, my Hurricane lets me breeze through the toughest of L3s, but I have to be very careful about low end L4s.
