Joy Division will be shooting NANO50 cal markers in the European events

For as long as we can remember Joy Division has been shooting Angel paintball guns. Looks like this season there is a bit of a change in the works as the team picked up pro paintball player Chris Lasoya and G.I. Milsim as a sponsor for the Millennium Series 2010 season.

Joy will be shooting NANO50 cal markers in the European events and if rumor serves us right, the team will resume shooting their Joy Division Angels when they play paintball worldwide. It is interesting to note that the Millennium Series was one of the first “major” paintball leagues to adopt and allow for .50cal paintball play.

Wow. Never thought I would see joy shooting something other than angles.

Curious to see how .50 cal is in tournaments.

Sponsorship money must be getting tight if they are willing to shoot something as untested as 50cal in a major tournament series.

Good luck Joy!

Unless the .50 cal shows to be superior to .68 cal there is no point to changing sizes. To shoot .50 cal just because it is almost as .68 cal is kind of foolish in pro play. However, if .50 cal has enough dramatic improvements to gain an advantage over .68 cal I think that things will change.

Personally I don't see this happening but crazier things have happened. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

.50 cal advantages:

-more shots in a hopper/pod
-possibly less air used
-possibly cheaper

Disadvantages:

-possibly less accurate
-less long distance accuracy
-less paint to spot
-less pain to a shot (pain does matter)

.68 cal advantages:

-tried and proven
-markers are standard for this size
-shoot further while being accurate
-more paint fill
-more pain=more noticeable hit

Disadvantages:

-more expensive
-holds less paint in hopper/pods as compared to .50 cal

There are probably more for the list but time will tell. I'm all up for the idea if it makes the industry move forward. Stimulation is good. Good job joy! Let us know how it goes.

Press release posted in the Joy Division section mentions that Joy has signed Chris Lasoya to run with them in Europe this year as well. This venture bears watching, that's for sure. Since Joy has been a top-level team on the Europe circuits, this will show if there's a real-world shortcoming with .50, or if it's fine to use in the big leagues.
