reffing hb 2010

Thank you to all refs at HB this past weekend. This was by far the best event i have ever played as far as reffing is concerned. sure I saw a few things slip by here and there, but you guys reffed a hundred games a day so something is bound to slip by, but you guys rocked this event. keep it up, and if things work out, well see you guys in chicago.

I actually thought the reffing was pretty solid. Then I saw a ref call a one for one, and pull a player from the wrong team. Then let him back in the game.

yeah i was a little worried going into the event that the reffing was going to be bad based off of some things that have happened at past events that i have heard about but i had no problems whatsoever.

it was consistent, consistently not that good. i watched reffs on center court sit there and stare at a guy with a hit on his leg then watched him try and slideit off twice and didnt do anything about it. i dunno but on field 2 it seemed like they needed more reffs too

I'd have to say some of the things I saw as a player and a spectator were pretty questionable, I realize it's paintball and sometimes bad calls happen, but the 4-5 I can think of off the top of my head were especially bogus.

The overall quality was pretty good, but there were a few very strong examples of ref fail.

Reffing has gotten a lot better since the past events. I watched field 1 all day Sunday and only saw 2-3 missed hits/bad calls. They did a fantastic job this event. I hope to see it stay just as good or better in the events to come.

reffing was questionable. some of them were good, and some seemed to have no idea what was happening.
few examples, saw a reff throw a penalty flag and then just stood at the sideline until another reff yelled at him to go pull the players.
another example is that there was a dirty hang, and the head reff agreed that he did indeed see that there was a hit on the back of the players leg and that it should be called as a dirty hang, and had a little powwow with the other reffs after the game because apparently none of them saw it.

but paintball's paintball. what can you do right?

I thought it was pretty good, to a certin extant if they can't get to the hit before he wipes it then they can't do anything, unless they actually saw the hit themselves.

Pump ran great, there was the one on one that they had a 'redo' with, but who knows.

Reffing on field 3 (pump) was a bit lax in the morning but tightened up in the afternoon considerably.

All in all it balanced out I guess.

I feel this event had the most solid refs out of any national event. Far superior than the PSP refs IMO. We had a bad call in playoffs, but I still feel they did their job with passion and responsibility!

The schedule keeper even helped us fill pods on our back to back.

Thanks for working hard at a GREAT event.

I found field 2's reffing was harshly lacking....
Lots of missed calls, and lots of people getting away with cheating...
Some HIGHLY questionable calls.

While playing, as well as spectating, it was easy to see that there were quite a few new ref's on that field. Very in experianced.

refs on field 2 were not up to par, but I will say one thing that made their jobs harder was the nppl's lack of having hoses to clean the bunkers properly. the whole event the bunkers were absolutely caked with paint. I also think that there was some favoritism for some of the cali teams I wont mention any names but there were a few players out there that were able to get shot multiple times a game and the refs just seem to not notice it and then happen to give that same player a pat on the back after the game and a congrats like they knew eachother very well.

Refs on field 2 absolutely sucked. Ton's of cheating, tons of stupid penalties, lazy, and overall just bad. Field 3 was so-so. Center court was the best but even then there were some bad calls and what not.

Agreed, the reffs on Field 2 had no idea what they were doing. It was a total mess and unfortunately a lot of teams got completely screwed by it. Other then that the event was awesome.

the ref's did pretty good from what I saw.

also is orange or yellow the protected color since the paint was yellow at the event. Infamous wore orange so I was confused

We played on field 3 (pump on Saturday). I have to say this was the best reffing we have EVER experienced at an NPPL event! We even had a ref shut down a player who started to argue! Some things are going to slip by the refs...everyone needs to realize this! I am very greatful for the improvement and all of the refs that we one field 3 reffing the pump event!
