Odd that the leak should go away with different pistons - and more particularly that it is the G-R2 piston that causes the leak rather than the stock piston - but if the leak is definitely coming from between the top of the reg and the front reg mount, then it would suggest that you need to change the o-ring on the top of the reg.

Check the seal on the tip of the piston neck to make sure that it is clean and undamaged.

i replaced that oring and it still leaks with gr2 piston. i also noticed its harder to slide the gr2 piston into the reg than the stock one. is that normal?

Can you confirm that the leak is definitely coming from between the top of the reg and the bottom of the FRM? Could it perhaps be coming from the solenoid directly behind the FRM? Did you check the seal on the tip of the piston neck?

If the piston head o-ring were leaking, the reg would leak out of the vent hole on the side.

The only o-ring that can account for a leak between the reg and FRM would be that o-ring at the top of the reg. If that o-ring itself isn't the issue, then the only thing that might make sense is if the reg were sending too much pressure to the marker, but then I would expect your solenoid to be leaking.

Bit of an odd one.....

well is it normal for the gr2 piston to be harder to put in the reg than the stock one?

Never thought about it, so I can only assume that mine wasn't harder to put in, or presumably I would have noticed.
