motorcycle in college?

i dont want to bring a car, because i've heard they're about useless on a campus such as purdue.

but with purdue being a gigantic *** college, i want some transportation, and some entertainment!
would a bike (honda 599, sv650) in college be a bad choice? getting my license in april, been riding on a permit on a cruiser.
during the winter i'd just drive it home and store it (winterize it).

all opinions welcome, jackasses stay out.

ive got mine at chico state, and not only is parking just $19 a semester with spots all over campus, but its super convenient to just zip down to the store on a bike. make sure you get some luggage, like a tank bag or some soft saddle bags to be able to throw stuff in

thanks for the reply, but i have some questions:

what do you do in bad weather?
how do you keep it in good shape without it being safe away from the elements in a garage?
is theft an issue?

theft isnt so much an issue as drunk people wanting to sit on it, and i always have the parking lock on. as for bad weather, my bike is definitely a beater, but once a month ill go home and wash it and do some minor service on it to keep it looking purty. if youre really concerned about bad weather, you can just buy a cover and put it over the bike after you're done riding

I had a bike in college.

buy something cheap and beat up, like a first gen sv650. People will constantly be messing with it and it will probably get knocked over a couple of times.

as for riding in bad weather, well you just get rain gear and ride. If it's too bad out to ride, you deal with the fact that you decided to not have a car.

if your living on campus i think it wouldnt be a bad idea. every university i've ever visited had tons of scooters and motorcycles around. schools usually have motorcycle specific parking now.

I have my bike at school, it is a great idea to have. Parking is only 20 a semester instead for 475 for a car. And since i go to school in so cal i do not have to worry about too many rain days. So it works out perfect.

my friend has a car at purdue and it's not really useless. he lives off campus in an appartment though, idk if that makes a big difference.

I bring my bike in spring and fall. Turns heads, and people haven't ****ed with it thus far. Sucks leaving it in the elements though so a cover is in store.

Not saying you couldn't get one later but your going to want a car when you want to move things around or when it starts to rain.

He can always take public transportation when it rains guys. It isn't like he's going to face a 3 month rainout or something.

Thats the same thing Noah said when his buddy suggested they build a boat just in case.

Stop being a girl and ride in the rain anyway. It isn't that bad, especially if you have decent gear.

At my school parking is at a HUGE premium. I wish I had a bike as there is always extra motorcycle parking.

too bad that nice cover turns into a parachute the second a strong gust of wind comes by.
