wow...

what EXACTLY do you want to do with computers?
why do you think the military will help you?
what do you already know about the military?
why not other branches?
better choice for you? who are you?
what help do you want?
what are your goals?
have you ever heard of google?
have you used about.com's military section?
how stupid are you exactly?

I'm sure the Navy and Marines have great computer training courses/careers. You know why? Because they are pretty much one in the same. I'd choose the navy because the recruit training is easier. You get in there, get the training, and get out with no ill effects. Of course a career in the navy or marines might be appealing to you. Look up or ask your local navy recruiter about the IT rating.

If you just want to work with a computer, it doesn't really matter which service you choose. If you want to fix them once again either one but if you want to cyber warfare, either navy or maybe air force, any air force guy jump in here if you know anything about the air forces cyber warfare division if there is one and not some sea story about an easy life.

What you should really do get a little better direction then ask the guys in here if anyone is in that field. What their life is like and how much they have found out it is worth on the outside. Just saying I want to work with computers and either navy or marines is like saying I want to shoot a gun in the military. Computers have become very intergrated part of ships to fighting vehicals. They are everywhere now.

If you're asking this question, please don't join the Navy.

DC.... Epic F****** fail on this one.

Hollis...

Like The Other One said... we dont know a lot about you.. so with limited information here goes. What are you looking to do with computers? Are you talking Networking? LAN Admin type stuff? Every Branch has some sort of Data Geek types.. I can tell you about the Navys.

For us if you're looking for Net. Admin then you're going to want to be an IT or a CTN. There are other rates that can get the same network training.. but these two are your best option. Now what does IT and CTN mean... look it up. And while your at it go to the other branches websites... most of them have a "Find your Job" search that you can see what they offer. Oh and hit up some recruiters... remember dont sign **** if you dont want to. When you have somewhat of a clue what you want come back here and ask questions... then someone here can answer you with something more. Good Luck.

If it's a straight up choice between the two go Navy.

I don't know about the Marines basic net admin training (w/e their equivalent is to an IT) but it's probably about the same. Very basic. You'll pretty much do net admin stuff, which is great if that's what you want.

However if you trying to get into the CTN field (or other branch equivalent) all four branches go to the same 6 month course in Pensacola. The training is incredibly in depth. You will learn how to do some really cool **** you'll need a clearance for.

The reason I say go navy is that although you would get the same schooling as a marine, there is no guarantee you'll be put to use with it. A couple of marines in my class go shipped to the desert right afterwards. Could be using it, but most likely not. If you go navy and become a CTN upon graduating you will be on your way to being pretty elite. 100% advancement to E4 and E5, huge re-enlistment bonuses, and every command you go to is shore duty. You can also easily get picked up for SEAL support billets with your skill set.

If you want to do network setup/computer engineering type stuff talk to the Navy recruiter about going CTM (maintenence).

If you walk into the Navy recruiters office and say the letters CTN and make the numbers for it they'll **** their pants and ship you out in no time.

Google: "10th Fleet" and you'll see why we're growing in importance (CTN's that is).

Hope that helps a little bit.
