Why pumps?
I'm just stating to get into tournament level speed ball. I want to know what advantages does pump give you in speed ball compared to other guns?

None, it puts you at a disadvantage off the bat.

Exactly.
Pump paintball is kind of like the classic car side of the sport.
When you're starting out and all that matters is winning, it's a step in the wrong direction. But, stick around long enough and you'll find it has more to offer.

That question warrants this answer:
Why not?
I got tired of not being challenged. I got tired of being asked to "tone it down" on the other players when I kicked their butts too badly in a game. I got tired of people complaining that I shot too fast.
I got tired of spending $50+ a day. I got tired of buying batteries. I got tired of using a paintball marker more complicated than counting using my toes.
I got tired of not having fun. Now that I play stock class, I have fun. If it's not for you, so what. It's the way I play, it's the way that keeps this sport fresh for me, and it's the way I will continue to play.

No real advantage. I use a tiny set up so I have a size advantage but it's not much THAT much of one.
I will say that one of the things I commonly hear is that no one can ever find me. You aren't laying constant lanes out there so no one has any idea where you are. If they see you once they may think you moved because they can't hear you. You take that one shot and make it count.

In 7 man there isn't a huge disadvantage. I play 7 man with pump all the time and I do just fine.
In PSP you're basically a man down to be frank. I know there will be guys that will argue against it but playing with a pump is like playing a man down.

Pumps are cheap to shoot, reliable and fun. That's about it.

If you become decent at paintball, its just one more thing to get better at to be able to play pump. It's more of a challenge, and its fun.

Our team first started using pumps at ALL of our practices. That alone has made us twice the players we ever were. Playing with a pump makes you more careful on your shots, and more explosive in your movement--meaning you get more comfortable timing your movement with opportunities.
Several of us have loved pump play for years, but the rest of our team has started to catch the craze. As a team, we still focus on semi-auto tournaments. But we're starting to do some pump tournies too, and those games are some of the most fun I have had in paintball.
I don't know what it is about pump, but like Linuss said, it keeps the sport fresh.

I'm definitely in the category of arguing against that.
The main argument is that the pump person can't lane at 12 bps on break so it's an issue. Unless your pumper is your back guy (unlikely) they don't shoot off break anyways.
Everyone is more than entitled to their opinions, of course, and I catch a lot of crap EVERY weekend. You just have to earn your respect, that's the difference.

I kinda like being picked dead last for walk on teams.
I play because its fun, a challenge, and cheap.
