You pinch those fingers together, and then with your other hand feel your palm just below your thumb. It'll get tighter as your fingers move down to your pinky, and that's what you compare to the steak. Works pretty well.
tried it again, little better but still confusing. Who has time while cooking to pinch finger, feel palm, test steak, and repeat. Just stick the thermometer in the thing and know you are done!
