The promise land is a State Of Mind.
maybe we could have a discussion as to what this state of mind might be. religion aside. what must you do?
what would we have to do to obtain this state of mind, state of being.
are we progressing? what is holding us back? and so on.

great speech. i do love TED.
how do we obtain self-esteem? do we look beyond our "self" for this esteem?
surely self-esteem is not truthfully based on material possession or exterior beauty(which then feeds optimism).
self-esteem can be instilled through experience. maybe the pursuit of said state of mind helps create self-esteem, with a purpose(which feeds optimism and self-esteem together).
we must strive to achieve wholeness/non-conflict in our minds. in this pursuit others of conflict will surely experience our progression and pursue wholeness as well.
but what are the attributes of whole "self"? and progressing "self"?

Kinda hard to follow all those words... I'm too tired.
Recognizing that fault is a part of perfection helps.
You just need to sort of recognize that you are in control of some things, and out of control of other things. I mean, it sounds obvious, but just kick back and enjoy the ride. That could be different for anyone else, but that's how I found nirvana.

I think that culture has a LOT to do with it.
Here in the US, we are facing a problem - the upcoming generation (my generation) is perhaps the first where quality of life has hit a plateau and we are having trouble being better than our parents. This is resulting in societal problems (depression, anxiety, etc.) because we live in a society where kids are expected to do better than their parents but this is seeming to be less and less possible in many middle to upper class families.

Self-esteem is far overrated. Optimism is useless until there is a system that allows optimism to be a reality. Of course, it still is all relative...

We cannot allow the anxieties of previous generations to shape our futures.
I like to view these past generations as the gears which run the world as we see it now. and this world is far from harmonized. if you were to view it as a machine, the gears would be almost completely ground off.
and so we scrap this machine! we take the salvageable parts...like culture( arts such as dance, music, painting etc.) we take our selfs, we take our passion for change, we take our awareness and wisdom and we re-build the machine. we rebuild our minds!
we can do this because the old machine is being replaced. and there will be no faith in the old machine. when WE the people that build this new future show, any with doubt, the prosperity it brings first hand in the social experience.
younger generations already outweigh the old in heart and we already have a significant more amount of influence.
but this new machine does not yet have a grasp on reality.... because it is still mainly a figment of our imagination. we have not yet built our minds in the right manner, to approach reality. we are contaminated with fear and doubt, because we carry the disease of the past.
we have to start somewhere. we have to start with the only thing we have control of, our self's. what we project into this world, what we choose to perceive, and what we choose to experience.
state of mind/ state of being.
