my friend buying a high end gun

my friend just started paintballing about a week or two ago. He started out with a spyder xtra custom its a cheap beginner gun. Well now he's out trying to get a dye, angel, or planet eclipse. I'm trying to explain to him why he shouldn't rush into tourney guns. Can you give me more reasons on why he shouldnt spend that kind of money yet.

Why not? High end guns are great. You afraid he might shoot you with it? If its his money why can't he do what he wants with it?

I agree with ^^^^ why the heck not? I am a new player, but entering tourneys this year and my first gun that I bought in december is a used ego 08 and have another on the way.

Why get a beginner gun then have to get another gun in a year or two? this way I will grow into my gun

Equipment only goes so far. That being said, if the group he is playing with only has mchanical markers and he goes out and buys an electro, then starts ramping on everyone pretty soon he isn't going to have anyone to play with.

On the other hand if he is getting really into it and everyone he plays with isn't that into it, he is going to seek more comptitionon his own and leave you all behind.

So ask yourself this: Are you trying to hold him back or are you trying to keep your little group together?

well, he may be better then you think, and he might want to get into paintball more seriously. If he isn't, his loss and he gets made fun of.

I've seen peole go play once and buy an ego10 then I have not seen them play again. Id tell him if he wants a "high end" get a used gun. Get a used ego8 or Dm7 and use the rest to play.

Wow you people are idiots. Theres no way in hell he should spend a ton of money on paintball that quick. My friend did the same exact thing, played about 5 times and hasnt since.

If he wants to get a nice setup, try something out like older high end guns or even mid end guns that are out now. They all shoot just about the same.

You can go pick up ULd PM6 for 150-200 and a Halo B for 30-50 and a 45/45 or 68/45 for anywhere from 50-100.

Dont drop serious money on paintball until youve played enough to know its not just a fad thing.

This is a young guns forum. I am sure that he has no serious income. Other than his parents. And even then if I were his parents I wouldnt go out buying the greatest gear. Its stupid. Makes no sense. Get something cheap and simple to begin with, get better, and if you want to become more serious sell what you got and get new gear then. Cause my bet is he'll play for a little with his amazing new gear he wants to get, get bored after a couple months and have all that money in gear just wasted.

Guests bring food. Food attracts animals. This one time, a bear came. And then the bear had to be destroyed. Which means they shot it in the head with a rifle, and killed it, and it died.

I agree. I bought an SLG since I needed a good entry level tourny marker. Got the Proto Player Combo Pack. Currently arguing with Dye since the SLG wouldn't even shoot with a fresh battery and the Co2 so now they agreed t0 let us give them the tank for the value of the tank ($25-30) in moneyzz so that I can buy a steely for $50 bucks. Primo just absolutley PWNS even though it isn't electric.

The new SLG player pack comes with a CO2 tank, and is designed to work fine with CO2 or compressed air.

High ends require proper maintenance and upkeep. A lot of you said not to hold him back and let him gets what he wants, but that's not a good idea if he doesn't know how to take care of it.

You were absolutely right in telling him not to rush into it. Has your friend played speedball? You say he only started last week. What if he doesn't enjoy playing the fast 5v5 format. Dropping 1100 on an Ego seems like a waste if you don't enjoy using it, let alone if it works properly.

I am sorry, I thought we were talking about a kid Living in the United States of America. Where you have the freedom to spend your own money how you want. I didn't realize he was living in Soviet America where everyone has a say in how you spend your own money.

People please, if the kid wants to spend his on money on a tourament gun let him. Some people learn through the mistakes of others, some people only learn by making their own mistakes.

Is it a good Idea, maybe ,maybe not, however we are talking about a minor kid who presumeably has parents to help guide him through life. I a pretty sure that PBtriChick and I are the only ones in this thread over 40 and have teenagers of our own.

I didn't see anyone ask if he as mecanically inclined. Are we assuming he is not, because we didn't ask? I didn't see anyone reccommend he go out and buy a brand new gun. I saw his friend saying he was "out trying to get a dye, angel, or planet eclipse", are the only versions of these available brand new? Didn't think so, you can pick up older versions from those manufactures anywhere from 150-1700 dollars.

It is the kids money and if he wants to go get a 2005 Ego or a 2010 SLS it is none of our business.

If it were my kid, or if he asked me I would talk to him. Howver we have his friend coming on here asking for help to try to convince him not to buy something he wants to wit his own money.

What are we doing here? We are asuming things not in evidence and making recommendations based upon our own bias.

Personally, I don't care what the kid does with his money. If he wants it, can afford it, and it isn't illegal he should be able to buy it, without any hassles from his friends or people who don't know him from a hole in the ground.

He asked for our ****ing opinion. So what did people do? Say their opinion. Dont even compare this stupid crap to US and Soviet Union. Were allowed to say that we think. In fact, the OP asked for it.

Read it (the OP) again, the op asked for us to help him convince his friend not to buy a high end marker, which is why my post was worded the way it was.

i think its a good idea not to get a high end marker unless he wants to get into a team or something like that i just got into paintball and got a spyder and a vl off craigslist great beginner guns and now im going to save up my money over like 5-6 months to make sure i still like it in that time period.
