Alien conversion kit

Jack are you going to make a .50 cal conversion kit for our guns?
Everyone else has done this so far, Bob Long, PE. I just wondered if we were going to see a conversion kit any time soon.

~Thanks

I wouldn't say it died. It's still around, it's just not taking off like the worthless scumbags, errr, Gardners, thought it would.

.50 cal hasnt died its just waiting on paint manufacturers to catch up and make decent paint. <<< Thats what screwed over Italia and the Gardeners....

And .68 will never be killed off because of .50 ether. .50 is just a less painful alternative to .68. Other than that it has no real benefits over .68.

and I'll stick to 68 because chicks dig big balls

Italia is the paint guy. The problem is they tried to sell a new version of paint they didn't have not realizing everyone already tried what they were promising. You can't make the 50 call heavy enough to equal the performance of 68 for a market sustainable price.

Italia also has a non-compete clause after he sold his shares in draxxus.....he cant make 68 cal paint. So he was trying to create a new market for what he could sell. It was all just a sham. 50 cal has been around a long time and the performance just isn't there, that's why it was never popular.

The paint companies all just retooled and made the 68 smaller anyway so it all worked out. Paintball companies just need to learn what other companies have known for ages(accept car manufacturers apparently). You have to stockpile money and products when they're cheap for the bad times! They will come again.

It'd be a waste of money for Jack. Also, I don't think .50 is going to hurt less. Sure, it has less weight, but it's more focused. Imagine the difference between dropping a ball point pen tip onto your palm, and dropping a sewing needle onto your palm. Sure, the needle has less weight, but it's going to sting more.

It all depends on the speed really. F=1/2mv^2

Pain is not just dependent on force, though it can be factor.

While it may not have as much kinetic energy or force, the stress (or pressure) it exerts on the body will be different. Pain can very intense even in low energy or low force situations. For example, a needle pressing into the skin. It does not require much force, but it is a high stress situation because of the extremely small area of contact.

Then there is the transfer of momentum, or impulse, which will also vary and cause a difference in pain.

There isn't a well developed way to quantitatively measure pain in the human body. As such, there are several contributing factors to pain experienced by the human body.

I can provide some sample calculations tomorrow, when I am not so exhausted.

Watch the video Bob Long made about .50 cal
.68 shoots through the target, and the .50 breaks.
go watch it on youtube, .50 will hurt less.

I've been shot by 50 cal a lot recently some teamates are giving it a shot. the pain is in fact a different sensation.

It's not that blunt stinging sensation that we've all learned to love. everyone has whole heartedly agreed that it is almost identicly to being flicked really hard, or so much more like actually being stung by a rubber band.

I took a 5 cal home from World Cup - it hurts a lot less, but the range is only about 80 max and it's hard to see the balls you're shooting. I guess some countries in Europe have restrictions that don't apply to 50 cal and in those countries 50 cal is doing good. But for here - I don't see it having a big impact except for younger players on small fields - but I will keep an eye on it.

The largest Xball/Speedball field is not 80 feet long, so I wouldn't think that the loss of distance would effect anything too drastically

I think xbal is 125 long, NPPL is 150. Which make them longer back right to back left

Yup.....and with decreased range comes decreased breakage on target as well. So it's not JUST about the range, it's about the energy behind the ball.
