Actually I picked up some .25's the other day from walmart. And there are guns that shoot 1000+ fps out there. But, they're not very common nor are they practical. My friend can barely cock his 750 fps sniper. And that's with .28 bb's. Also, if my pistol can shoot over 550 fps than I'm pretty a sniper can reach 1000.

Some wal-mart's carry .20 and .25's, but others only have .12 crossman. We need to remember that walmart is not an airsoft store.

Airsoft vs Paintball range and accuracy

Just curious why/how the weight of the airsoft bb would affect the cocking of the gun...

Not an airsoft player, my sons are. I play paintball and stumbled across the thread looking to see which would actually go farther under stock conditions.

The weight of the BB wouldn't affect the cocking of the gun. It would affect it's velocity and trajectory. A gun that shoots a .2gram BB at 400fps would only shoot, say, a .3gram BB at around 320fps. Without tuning hopup the .2 would travel farther but both would have the same energy behind it. People use heavier BBs in higher FPS guns so the flight pattern is more stable.

tl;dr Airsoft guns are able to shoot farther and more accurate than Paintball.
If you are shooting 1000 fps I will just go buy a real gun. That is retarded shooting that fast.

Well, they have the second most airsoft stuff that isn't online, Big 5 has the most, at least in my area. So Wal-Mart is an airsoft store.

Another thing...One of my Airsoft buddies who actually knows about airsoft, said that an Airsoft bb, because it is lighter, will tend to be less accurate since only a small gust of wind can blow a .12g up to a .30g off course. My friend has a sniper rifle and uses .30g at 400fps and a slite gust of wind will blow his bb off course. While a paintball, being heavier, has a better chance of being more accurate with winds blowing since it retains more energy than a little bb.

Do I really have to explain this too? I just won't bother. Take a physics class bro, and maybe your IQ will reach over 50...someday.

Yeah bro, then maybe I'll have a high enough IQ to post 4 replies instead of one simple reply. Go ahead and explain it. Because I'd like to hear your logic.

I read different parts of it at different times and just did 4 posts. Is there a problem with that?

First off, why would you be shooting 1000fps?

I don't shoot 1k, I shoot ~600fps with .2s. But why not? If you can get a gun shooting that fast then good for you. Same with ROF; is more than 25rps practical? No. But last I checked this is America and we thrive on the excessive.

Alright, but the thing is, a pellet gun can shoot 1000 fps, my pump bb gun can shoot like about 550 to 600 and being hit by that would suck. Break skin and depending on where it hit, it could kill someone. An ACP .45 caliber round is around 750 fps (and yeah there is more power to propel the weight). But when you get a higher fps, it makes it less fun on the receiving end.

Last time I checked, America is sadly turning into the tyrant that our founding fathers came to America to escape because of what our leaders are doing. Turning this country into a socialist passive country and not standing up to fight back the tyranny that the Muslims and Terrorists are committing. Pulling out of the war in the middle east, sending our country into debt, not allowing the pipeline for oil/fuel through, and sending businesses over seas because of "environmental regulations". Don't get me wrong, I am an American Patriot. I hate Political Correctness. And the Terror Muslims are causing needs to be stopped. But...that is another topic.

Back to the topic ... The only reason velocity is important is for range an accuracy. But the thing is in close quarters, that can hurt very badly and make others not want to play airsoft. I know for me, I was told not to get a gun that shoot over 400fps with the guys I played with and ended up not getting one that wasn't as good and then they changed the rules and everyone got higher fps guns and I always got lit up. Not to mention if you don't have a higher FPS gun than others, they "don't feel it". So I guess that would be a good reason for higher fps.

First paragraph started out strong, you lost me on the second one, and the third one is like stating the obvious. No field would ever allow a gun shooting 1000fps (or near it) to be used within at least 200ft. Hell, the indoor field I work at has a 350fps with .2g BB limit. Shooting 1k would be amazing for an outdoor field that has plenty of space to shoot from distances. Shooting that fast is something that requires a lot of time, money, and responsibility.

Yeah, sorry about the first two.

But still for an outdoor field 1000fps is going to hurt. Even if the field is spread out. If someone in bunkered in real well, you are going to have to bunker him. And an answer to that is well use a less powerful gun. But who is going to be responsible to know when to use the 1000fps or not? In the heat of the moment you may forget to switch, or in anger not switch.

That's why even outdoor fields have limits for DMRs. The fields near me cap DMRs at 550fps with .23s and make the minimum engagement distance 100ft. There are surely some responsible people out there that could use a 1000fps gun properly but it's easier to trust no one than risk an incident.

Yeah, wait, they make .23s? I thought they only made .12, .20, .25, .30, and .35s

The only airsoft gun ever confirmed by chrono to have a muzzle velocity of 1000fps was custom built, and required the use of a special oil tempered spring.

Airsoft guns can out range paintball because of a backspin system called hop-up. That is the only reason.

But what about Flatline barrels or hop-up in paintball guns (rough sandpaper like tape in the barrel)?

Those are sort of like hopup, but Airsoft ones are more developed. There are many different hopup chambers and nubs that you can use to increase range/accuracy.

Oh, and APEX also.

But still, an airsoft bb may travel "farther" but it would be inaccurate because the wind would affect it so much. Since a Paintball is larger and has more mass, it wouldn't be affected as much.

Woah, really? They make almost every increment of BB weight up to .5. I've personally used .12, .2, .23, .25, .27, .3, .36 and .4.

Airsoft guns have generally more FPS and will still out-shoot a Paintball gun with wind. When you use backspin to gain more range the wind can affect it regardless of weight, since the projectile will be 'floating' after a certain distance. For arguments sake, just imagine both guns being shot in a windless environment.
