I've played TWO scenaios where the mission was to 'rescue' the General.
In both cases, the General was 'given' to the other side by a ref and they could take him to any flag base/bunker on the field except their HQ.
It was a search and rescue more or less.
One game the general was just handed to a group of players on the field and told to take him to any bunker and hold him there until say 1:00. They cannot shoot him. They MUST keep him alive until time expires. They cannot move him once in the bunker. They had to figure out what was going on. If they were smart, they would get more HELP to defend but if they just do what they are told and the other team finds them in force, then Whoops!
The other was given to a mission squad that knew what was going on. They would get a sizeable force deployed around the bunker.
If the General was killed by friendly fire, the General's team lost the points. If the General was killed by enemy fire, their team lost the points. Of course this mission took a ref to run.
One was during the night game. Viper Productions was kind enough to try and work any special weaponry into the game given advance notice. It was a Cyborg vs Marines game. Brought one of those personal screamers the ladies carry to scare off muggers. Viper approved that as an "Electro Magnetic Pulse Grenade" that could be used TWICE per day. It would kill Cyborgs only but not Grunts.
Once we located what we hoped was the walled base with our General (Heavily Defended for no particular reason except possibly that.), We got close enough to use it. Cleared the outside defenders guarding the single entrance but impossible to go through the door in the dark and live for more than a second or two. Pulled the pin on the screamer and tossed it over the wall. 100 foot kill radius eliminated all the defenders inside and our General just walked out to us...
Producers know that quirky stuff like that is what makes the game interesting. It would have no impact on the game but make it more interesting for the players involved. Those that do the same thing every game for years gets STALE and BORING after you've played it 2-3 times. Since MOST of the players are LOCAL, they might want to liven it up and do some simple but different things each year....
