Anyone here strobing a basketball game??

I'm looking at going with AB800 and PW to do strobing. With one strobe in each corner to provide constant even lighting to the gym.
I have tried Elinchrom D-Lite4 with 2 of them coming from the middle on one side and having the light pointing at either net... Sadly i didn't find this worked that well.

Care to show photos of your setup if you have?

Also if you have done it. What are the strobe you use?

How have you heard of doing it?

ya i've read abit of that thread before. My question is that, can the skyports do remote shooting? I don't think the AB ones can. I would like the PW for this feature...

I strobe basketball.
Did it last night actually.

I used two hotshoe strobes at the corners, pointing in towards the key, They were superclamped to bleachers.

I didn't quite get them aimed right, the paper only wanted me to cover the varsity game so I got there at the end of the JV game and people were in the stands, so I had to work fast and I got them aimed decently but not as good as I'd have preferred.

Essentially I did something similar to this:


I had the strobes at 1/4 ( again, small shoe mounts), and that was enough for me to get f/4 at ISO640 at the cameras sync of 1/250. But they were a little hot if someone took a baseline 3.

Ultimately I'd have liked to come earlier and feather them a little ( halfway between direct and bounce), but I was on a deadline and had to get in, setup , snap 50 pictures and leave.

I also was able to use my 300 to get some downcourt shots.


Forgot to mention, I use RF-602s they have the same range my cybersyncs did, don't misfire, are cheaper, and can fire remote cameras.

You should check fred miranda. a lot of the sports shooters there strobe basketball. if i were doing it, i'd get some high powered strobes and bounce them off the ceiling or wall

ya, thats the way i'm looking at donig it.
Have 4 strobes, like in the photo above, but one in each corner... IE, 2 more on the other baseline

However, i would be going for the bounce effect. Aiming them at the ceiling... Sadly though i would only be able to do this next season. Just gathering more information.

Also curious anyone have the cybersync can test if you can do remote shooting with them? I would like to know if u can.

Also those RF-602s triggers... Very interesting... i'm quite tempted to buy a set now... very curious to how well they perform to PW.

They wont perform anywhere close to PW, but they will do a lot. They have good range and consistency. Probably the best ebay triggers.

I don't have PWs to test them against, but some have said they are very close to PW in range.
Given I wouldn't be sad if they weren't, considering I paid less for to trigger 3 flashes than I would for a single PW.

We have four Speedotron lights set up in the corners, works pretty well for us. PWs to fire, never have a problem.
