Been to Iraq.

I walked in on a friend watching it, so I stayed to see a bit of it.

It was the scene where the EOD guys come across a lone humvee, abandoned, in a city. That alone is rubbish. Then... The guys are hiding.

With no security posted.
Because of an IED.
That they can't see.
Because it's a ****ing half-klick away.
So the eod guy goes alone.
In a city.
Out of view.
Pops smoke for no reason, other than to risk the lives of others needlessly.
Didn't answer comms.

....and I walked out after that. I couldn't take any more.

One thing about this movie that annoys it that.. We shot a suspected VBIED, the passenger crawled to us and the driver couldn't.. we didn't save him.. we waited for EOD and they blew him up inside the car.. This movie is to Mickey mouse.

The Hurt Locker is a movie, it's an art form, it doesn't need to be accurate. If the director wants to portray an emotion, she doesn't need to do it in an extremely accurate, military by the books, sort of way. I don't know why people are getting so pissed about this.

When a movie is proclaimed as the "defining film of the Iraq War", it sure as **** better be pretty spot on. It's the same way that some of you paintball *****es get your panties in a knot whenever a movie shows someone in the same room as a paintball gun without a mask on. Portraying soldiers as undisciplined rogues, who get drunk and punch each other in the gut, contemplate killing their own colleagues, pop smoke at the risk of others lives, don't answer comm, and leave the wire on their own accord is not only ludicrous, it's ignorant and disrespectful.

This film is just another case of a stupid civilian convincing other stupid civilians that they know what their talking about.

Who labeled The Hurt Locker as the "defining film of the Iraq War"? A bunch of critics did. The director didn't set out on a mission to make the defining film of the Iraq War, and as a matter of fact, she didn't even expect the film to get big.

It's just a form of entertainment, and the director thought the Iraq backdrop allowed her to better convey the feelings and emotions she wanted the audience to feel. If anything, i'd think you guys would be more pissed about something like Modern Warfare 2 (the highest selling video game of all time) depicting Army Rangers running around with double uzis, and grenade launchers, shooting the hell out of anything that moves. I'm sure that sends the right image of what the military is like to little kids and the public. It's evidenced with all the little kids who come in here talking about how they want to be Special Forces.

It's just a movie, and a good movie at that.

Oddish... seriously... get the **** out. The movie is ****... it's so bad that it's actually painful to watch. It's an insult to people who really serve, it would have been more accurate if it mashed "Starship Troopers" together with "Super Troopers". As it is it's just plain ignorant. I doubt there was a single military advisor on their production team and if there was he should be drug into the street and shot.

Also... I don't give a **** about MW/MW2.

The Hurt Locker is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military’s unrecognized heroes.”
“This thrilling and heart-pounding look at the psychology of bomb technicians and the effects of risk and danger on the human psyche is… inspired by real events by journalist* and screenwriter Mark Boal.”
“Acclaimed director Kathryn Bigelow brings together groundbreaking realistic action…”
“… The Hurt Locker is a gripping portrayal of real-life sacrifice and heroism, and a layered, probing study of the soul-numbing rigors and potent allure of the modern battlefield.”
- From the website of the film.

Sounds to me like they don't try to push it as being anything like the Iraq War.
