Mame Arcade 2.0

My first cabinet kinda sucked cause I used cheap wood and covered it in vinyl, this one is made from 2 sheets of MDF and 1 of a good plywood. I should be able to make this 4 player and hopefully be able to upgrade to a 27" arcade monitor eventually.
Day 1:

Day 2:

It's running HyperSpin, all roms were renamed and properly display box art and intro video. I gotta purchase the controls, coin door and paint it and hope to have some videos of it up and running.

Never got the point in adding a coin door..I mean, are you actually going to charge your friends to play?

What are the specs on the system you have running this? And are you just emulating MAME roms?

Been a while since I updated, it goes from butt-*** cold to 55* from day to day.

Little bit of black semi-gloss latex paint:

22 button's, 1-4 player start buttons, Ultimarc I-PAC 4, 1 Ultimarc Mag-Stik Plus, 1 Ultimarc Mag-Stik and 2 Ultimate Joysticks from Happ controls.

The original control panel which I found to be too cramped.

The completed test fitting with home made cardboard bezel.

The new control panel, waiting on 1-4 player coin buttons, 1 and 2 player button 7's and the 19" LCD bezel from Happ controls.

Bezel and buttons scheduled for delivery tomorrow!

What is the advantage of making your own controls rather than buying something like this? http://www.xgaming.com/

Basically the customization aspect, you can design it exactly how you want with the features you want. My P1 and P2 stick are adjustable (P1 from the top and P2 from bottom) from 4 to 8way switches, where as 3 and 4 are only 8 way and just have 3 buttons. As far as price goes ordering from xgaming will save quite a bit, I tried to order one of there packages for player 3 and 4 but they were sold out for 4-6 weeks on the joysticks.

Here it is fully completed. I'll add artwork and the marquee further down the line, but right now it's 100% operational.

It doesn't cost $100 to build it yourself.

I'm not sure what parts they use, but different brands of parts are of different quality have a different feel. Buying your own parts, you can get the highest quality parts (Usually Sanwa, Happ or Seimitsu), so you can mix and match buttons and sticks from different brands. Also different color combinations, as well as changing the setup for the stick (square or octagon gate for stick), and position of the buttons.

Actually it costs more, each one of those sticks are $25-30, and each button ~2-3$ a piece. You're looking at probably $60-80 per player for an 8 button configuration.

My controls all together were around $200. $35 for my stick, $30 for 2 player and ~$13 for P3 and P4 each. The board to convert them to USB is around $60 for a 4 player configuration.

This is the coolest thing I've seen in awhile. Totally sparked my summer project plans.
