Well yesterday I shot my first doe with my new bow.... it didn't really go to well. She was eating out of my corn pile with a few other doe. I stood up, drew back, aimed and shot her in the ribs. It was like 15 minutes before dark so it was really hard to tell where exactly I hit her, but I heard the plunk of an arrow going through ribs. Tried tracking her for 1 1/2 but there wasn't much of a blood trail. I decided to try again in the morning. The following morning I found a lot more blood, but it stopped.... searched for a good 3 hours. My uncle was telling me that there is a dead spot on deer below the spine and above the lungs... I guess that is where I hit her.

I do not get why you guys are killing does all your doing is killing off the population.

I hope your joking...

Down here in Maryland, doe management is important. We have to take out a fair number of doe to keep the deer population under control.

The more doe the more chances of bucks therefore more bucks are around.

Not true at all. The more doe around the less ground a buck needs to travel to "get some" during the rut.

That means that bucks are in smaller areas, harder to hunt.

Anyway, two pretty sweet things happened tonight.

1) a bird handed on my arrow...

2) I killed the buck i have been scouting for the last few weeks.

I'll admit, not the best shot. Im stilling getting over the jitters. He didn't run too far off from the stand, maybe... 60 yards.

Young doe are better for eating and MODOC manages their populations. Nothing wrong with it. I'll probably go for a doe if I take my AR out this fall.

I'll be hunting deer both archery and gun season here in Indiana. My uncle owns 60 acres that he just bought this year, and me and my dad have been helping him get it all setup for hunting season. We have 4 ladder stands and two ground blinds.

For bow I have a Bear Whitetail Legend, 31 in. draw length, 65 pound draw. Bull's Eye by Copper John Saxon sight, Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit, Tru Ball Stinger release, using Rage 3 blade 100 grain broad heads.

For gun I have a 12 guage Browing Silver Auto Loader.

Ready to get some deer this season.

Just got back in and I'm pissed at myself.

My stand which I thought was in the prime location turns out to not be. I have been having these two bucks come out into a clearing 50-60 yards away the past 3 nights and they just keep walking straight out so it's either 60 yard shot or nothing.

Practiced some 50-60 yards shots and felt comfortable. Well, I shot at a decent 6 point around 60 yards away and stuck him in the neck : ( no blood and I tracked until my flashlights ran low.

****ty night : ( He still has my arrow with my spitfire broadhead in his neck somewhere,

Took my first deer with archery this weekend. 35 yard shot, double lung. Ran about 40 yards and piled up. Somewhat upset, I thought it was a doe when I shot at it, turned out to be a button buck.

Can't be too upset though, it was my first one with the bow, and it was my first time out hunting with a bow.

^ Two thumbs up.

Once I started archery hunting I had little desire to go rifle hunting. I could kill an unlimited amount of deer with a rifle.

not to be a bick but a 60 yard shot is just too far to be able to make a clean kill every single time.

In a week and a half muzzleloading season starts up here in PA. I live with four other dudes in a bachelor pad, so we're all counting on me to get some cheap meat

I haven't done any serious deer hunting (3 times out before, didn't even see anything, much less take a shot)--is it a good idea to bring a pistol with me in case my muzzleloader puts one down, but doesn't kill it? Or does that scenario never happen?
