There was 11 minutes and 39 seconds of actual gameplay. I was actually expecting more since both teams are notorious passers of the ball which would figure more time stoppages in.

A few interesting things I noticed:

The officials took on average 2 seconds to blow the whistle after the player was down by contact.

The longest play of the game was via a punt as opposed to kickoffs.

The average time for a play was just under 5 seconds.


I cannot wait for baseball to start so I can take a watch to that one.

I remember reading an article about a guy that timed the action in a NFL game and it came out to around 11 minutes. So to make it a more enjoyable game I timed it as well. Next time I do it I will have multiple watches to find out some more statistics.

i heard somewhere that the average was like 18 minutes.

i blame the decreased play time on indy running the ball way more than anyone expected.

I am not trying to start a sport related argument, but I found it interesting that for a 2-3 hour time slot only 12 minutes was actual gameplay. That is why I cannot wait for MLB, NBA, and NHL to start up so I can repeat it. I am going to do the same for soccer this coming weekend.

Dont be so dumb to try and compare duration and disregard the intensity. Jogging a mile in 6 minutes is easier than doing dead lifts for 6 minutes.

Because I have balls and testosterone. These incline me to play sports that I am less talented in, however encounter a much greater feeling of being a man. Chicks dont dig grass fairies.
