I agree. I like shooting aperture priority mode so I can control the DOF.
But I have also gotten great results shooting shutter priority.
Manual mode might be good to help with under / overexposing and having to worry about compensation in aperture priority.
I have never worried about being a distraction. Although I have been told to shut up by many ref's....so keep your mouth shut on the sidelines
I use a Kata 702 to protect my gear. One of the best $40 I ever spent. Get one...it will last a long time. Stellar protection IMHO.
Just go out there, shoot lots of pictures, try different things...and you'll figure out what works best for you.
