Either the Canon 70-200 IS USM L series in either f/4 or f/2.8. It will all depend on how much money I have at the time. I really like the f/2.8 but the f/4 autofocus is faster with the 50D so I'm leaning that way and then getting a nice tripod or even a FLIP Mino HD video camera with the cash I'm saving.

I like my Canon 70-200 F/4L non IS a lot. Canon released the new 70-200 F2.8 IS MKII just a week or so ago, so you might be able to pick the MKI up for cheap. There was a used 2.8 non IS on POTN for $900.
If you're only using it for paintball, IS isn't necessary really. Save yourself the cash and get a tripod.

I'm going to use it for more than paintball though. I also have a natural tremor, so anything I can do to help get a steadier shot though, the better. I'm also hoping to get a refurb so it will be even cheaper.

I guess, none of the photographers really use IS. Most of them would just get the 2.8, but if the IS would help, go for it.
If you planned on using it indoors, the 2.8 would help you.

I know, I'm strange.
There is no way I'm taking the camera to do too many high-speed paintball shots indoors. I'm eventually going to pick up a cheap indoor lens for personal use though.
The other one I'm kinda considering is the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS. Something with a little extra focal length on it to better capture the opposite side of the field, but it makes getting what's right in front of me harder to capture.
EDIT: The only reason for the IS on this one is because Adorama doesn't show an non-IS version.

Honestly, cross field shots would be nice, but they'll most likely be either blurry, out of focus, or not framed right. My 70-200 has served me great so far. If you want the extra length, get a 1.4 teleconverter.
F4L non IS: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._f_4L_USM.html
I just got the 50 F/1.8 sunday from B&H. It's nice, and only $99. Great deal. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...0mm_f_1_8.html

Sure, maybe I lose some of the crispness and it gets harder to shoot in lower-level light, but I don't lose a ton in shortest distance for focus and I gain a lot larger of a zoom so I can probably do a better job catching the opposite sides of the field.
I use that same f/1.8. It's a decent little lens for the price.

I edited my post some.
A 1.4 teleconverter would make a 70-200 a 98-280, plus the 50D having the 1.6 crop sensor.

sorry, I got in a work-related discussion of Jagerbombs.
I don't know what I will do. I'm going to get some advice around PBN first and make my move then. I know the 2.8 and the 4 are nice lenses, I'll give them a try with both IS and non-IS, and go from there. My tremor is pretty bad at times though so I tend to do what I need to do to stay stable.
