So I have an OLD Ion (Like, one of the first. Purchased in 05) and I was considering doing the XE convert. My only question: Is the shell of the XE still replaceable? I have an old shell which is no longer in production and I'd like to continue using it if possible. My shell has a removable back piece so it wont interefere with the bolt out back.

A body made for the old ion will not work with your gun if you do the XE conversion.

Yeah that didnt help. I THINK you're telling me that the XE's no longer have a removable shell... is that correct? Which means if the shells aren't removable any longer then I cant put my old shell on an XE.... right?

Edit: Ok I found a pic that answers my question. So the feedneck now screws into the ****ty plastic shell instead of the actual metal body like the original ions. Kinda sounds like theyre much flimsier than the old ions, at least as far as the feedneck goes. Any thoughts? Convert or not?

No the shells are still removable. They are just made differently. The actual firing chamber part no longer has the feedneck threads. They have been moved the the shell on the outside. The also changed the threading to NXT threads for the feedneck.
