I would form my feces into a camera. It might even work a little better than a d40. The rebel XS kicks its *** in the value department. Nice Try. And ken sucks.

The dude is whack, and everyone in the professional photography community knows it. Even POTN (photography-on-the.net) users realize this... and they're pretty useless for everything*

Personally, everyone among my family and friends shoots a nikon. I shoot a nikon. I spent a week with another friends canon and found it good enough but there is no denying that I am a nikon guy.

Sorry for any typos. Typing on an iPod keypad is a pain...
No it's not. It's a fancy looking point and shoot.

Ok.
You all win.
D40 is a piece of **** camera not worthy of TP in the mens room of Dennys.

I'm just appreciating it for what it was. A very entry level DSLR. The first DSLR camera I ever borrowed from a friend that was responsible for drawing my interest in more serious photography.

Just dont take it personally. I posted here to help a guy decide on a new camera. He has a D40 and I told him a D90 would be a solid step up.

No disagreement on those notes - quoting ken rockwell is a big red flag, so you were given unusual pressure to explain your thoughts.

At least I came out with all my limbs, and most of my ego in tact. :p
I'll add KR to the list of things NEVER to bring up in the photo forums. Along with Nikon v. Canon, and abortion...

you can bring up kenny occasionally.. but you have to have a good reason and a good way to back it up.

OP: if you don't know the feature differences between the D300 and the D90 then get the D90. It'll give you a solid upgrade over the D40, and the difference between the D300/D90 is a lot smaller than D40/D90

Also, for pretty objective glass reviews
