Lucky Stage 5 and Hollowpoint

Hey guys, I just finished up my ion only to find that it vents air after 20-30 shots.

The ion has a lucky stage 5 body with a 5.1 back cap installed and a deadly wind hollowpoint bolt kit. the more i look at diagrams of what the level 5 should have internally the more it looks like i'm missing a few parts.

this is what i have with nothing left in the body:

the first 3 starting from the top left are symmetrical rings i found in the firing can, the next piece is the firing can with nothing in it, the 5th piece is the hollow point bolt, the first piece on the next row is a piece i found in the body, and last is the bolt stalk mated to the stage 5.1 back cap.

now correct me if i'm wrong but i'm missing a piece right? could someone point me towards which piece it is and where to find a replacement? and can someone tell me how to put in everything? like does the orientation of the symmetrical rings matter?

thank you very much!

not sure, but what i have up there is pretty much all i have. the bolt is quite wobbly when it's on by itself.

the firebolt came with a black rubber piece on it, but my hollowpoint won't fit on or around it in any way if that's what the bolt stop is >.<

I have no clue what all the stuff is on the left. They look like top hat rings. All you need is the bolt, stalk, back cap, and front insert. The front insert is in the body most likely. Is you feel behind the feedneck inside the body you will feel and oring. That is were the front insert is.

What you have is what you need for the Hollowpoint to work on the Lucky Body. You don't even need the 3 symetrical rings. Those are just to decrease the air volume in the firing chamber.

You aren't missing anything

I would suggest to install the bolt without the rings to start with and try to get it running reliably

thanks for the replies thus far!

so the rings i don't need, got it.

the ring on the bottom left is the piece i pulled out from the body is that the front insert? everything else inside the body looks anodized.

i'll be trying it out when i get home.

The bottom left peice should be in there though it's not needed. IIRC it helps direct the air flow better to increase the performance of the HP.

there is another piece that should still be in the body, it's a small firing can that's the length of the front part of the bolt and should still be in the body

I would take all the pieces out of the gun and assemble them to check oring tolerances and replace any orings that are bad

as you can see there is a firing can in both stage 5 and 5.1 bolt kits, hopefully that helps

that's the diagram that made me think i was missing the part, but i admit i am new to ions and i trust the previous seller so if you guys say it's in there i trust you folk found an o-ring in the body so i guess it's in there.

i replaced the o-rings on the hp bolt stock, removed the three firing can rings, and it holds air and shoots. i didn't get a chance to put any rounds through it or walk it extensively, but there is almost no kick it's pretty sweet!

thanks for the help! and hopefully i'll get some air this weekend. so will i want to insert the three rings at some point? iirc decreasing volume gets better efficiency?

I would get it shooting without them and then put them in and retune the gun

they should help make it more efficient but it will run at a slightly higher pressure

Top hat rings increase pressure by reducing the volume of the firing chamber, but since there is less volume to fill, you use less air, making the gun more efficient.

FYI, if you run the hollow point bolt at "too high" of a pressure, it will literally rip the main o-ring right off the stalk. "Too high" could be anywhere from 160 psi to 180 psi. If you stay below that you should be okay.

hmm i was running it at 200 O.o, i thought smaller firing chamber meant you had to increase pressure.

i purchased a gcpb body that i'm going to swap the parts into and i'll play around with the pressure then (better color match and it came with detents and laser eyes ).

what should i be aiming for then for input psi and dwell?
hollowpoint bolt
lucky body

200 is most likely too high for the HP bolt. Try about 140-160. Mine rips off the stalk at about 170 or so

my lucky 5.1 w/ TechT L7 runs at 120 psi and 10ms dwell so since the hollowpoint is slightly lighter you should have around the same results

what dwell are you running? and was the 200 with all 3 rings in?

I don't have any tophat rings in my gun yet but I may try them for efficiency once I tune it better how it sits
