Yes, they are important if you plan on taking golf seriously.

At least for me, It's impossible to find a putter I like. I have a Ping (bahaha, I can't even remember the model) right now and it's my favorite by far.

^ thats a fairly stupid statement..
golf shoes arent just for grip but being water proof etc
not to mention if you have some good shoes, walking a full course will feel like walking on pillows compared to being in running shoes
i'm rocking 2 year old Nike pro-model with full air and they are probably the most comfortable shoes i've worn period, let alone golf shoes

I've always worn Adidas and they're awesome shoes. Besides the fact that the original spikes wore out so fast, but I change them pretty often anyway.

no it's not. someone who can't even make solid contact 3/4 of the time would look like a doucher in golf shoes. i'm just looking out for him

Nah, he's right, you are retarded. If you are using $3000 clubs and have all the newest **** and can't make contact 3/4 of the time, you might look like a douche. Wearing a $50-$100 pair of golf shoes while trying to learn how to play doesn't make you look stupid. He is simply wearing the proper gear and trying to learn how to play. Its also part of the etiquette if you are playing on a course. You would look like more of a douche if you showed up to play a round of golf in skate shoes than you would if you just sucked and played in golf shoes.
You really sound like one of those douchers who isn't very good but can sit around making fun of others.

I'm not claiming to be good, but I do hold my own. I played my first 2 years of varsity golf without golf shoes and was always under 45 which is pretty decent for high school golf around here. only about 1-2 kids if that will break 40. I just know that if I saw some kid with golf shoes that struggled to hit the ball, golf shoes must not be doing much good. The thought of getting golf shoes for me always meant the day i'm a real golfer. I got golf shoes mid season of my senior year of high school

You're right that for a brand new player golf shoes aren't really neccessary, but you're being an idiot when you say he'll look like a douche. That's like saying a kid wearing basketball shoes who can't make a layup is a douchebag. Would anyone honestly look someone who is bad at golf and say "Oh he sucks and he even has golf shoes, what a douche!"... no. If you've played enough golf in you're life you would realize that the majority of golfers all suck, and no one gives a ****, it's fun regardless.

sigh.
one of the important aspects of golf shoes are the "cleats" used for grip.
essential.

Try to hit the ball, and get it as close to the hole as you can. Eventually, get it in the hole.
