First time shooting lights and it was extremely cold out.
Question: When using the rule of 1/3's do you use the true horizon or the top of what is visible? Example of what I mean: in the picture I just posted the bank of the river is right in the center but the tops of the trees more follow the rule.

you use the subject if you need to use the rule of thirds. it's not necessarily a rule but more a suggestion

Ok, I thought for landscape shots the lines were also supposed to be along the 1/3 lines.
