With the arrows i'm very pulled into the silhouette. I didn't even notice the arrows until i read your caption.

First time shooting lights and it was extremely cold out.
Question: When using the rule of 1/3's do you use the true horizon or the top of what is visible? Example of what I mean: in the picture I just posted the bank of the river is right in the center but the tops of the trees more follow the rule. |

you use the subject if you need to use the rule of thirds. it's not necessarily a rule but more a suggestion

Ok, I thought for landscape shots the lines were also supposed to be along the 1/3 lines.
