What we call macroline is generally made from nylon, has a .250" nominal OD, and depending on the design specs can have pressure ratings from 200 psi to 1000 psi - of course, not all of the flexible air tubing manufactured is suitable for paintball use. I have found that much of the macroline being supplied in our sport is actually only rated to 500psi or less, meaning it is unsuitable and unsafe for paintball use. This underrated line is stressed beyond its design criteria when exposed to high temperatures and overpressure, and is the cause of those (often spectacular) failures we see on hot sunny days. I have found a manufacturer of tubing rated to 1000 psi (3000 psi burst), and am testing it out now to see how it does. It is a little stiffer than the usual stuff, but it is a minor trade-off for safety.
