It died when I left for Colorado........
no, really it seems like there is 100x the paintball stuff going on in KY now then there was 5 or 6 yrs ago. however it does seem like the state of Colorado is losing more and more teams, fields and shops.
Hell even EKU is working on getting a permeant field.

i think if u think that paintball is dead in ky look at the d4 xball world cup standings like 2 or 3 teams in the finals are from ky and then unlimited placed 2nd in d2 xball so i think that speaks for itself and louisville is always flooded with talent

paintball is the most active its ever been in the louisville area. I agree it seems like the lexington area has died off due to the fact of a legitimate field very close by.but im my opinion kentucky paintball is better than it ever was, atleast the competition is. we are seing more and more kentucky teams p-lace high and win in psp events.

I live in W. Ky and as far as tournament paintball goes we have two dead fields. Sure they still host birthday parties and church groups but walk ons are next to nothing. I know when I go I pretty much have to count on taking people with me to play or plan on doing drills.
There are still quite a few groups that do woodsball that don't support a field though.
On the other hand, SEPS and the MSXL seem to have been mighty successful this past year and are great values for the amount of games you get to play. I had more fun playing them this year than playing the local tournies in my area when it was thriving.
Personally I believe this issue with the local fields was due to the fact that a couple years ago people would come to play and walk in to 15bps while playing with tippmanns and spyders and never came back. I believe 10bps is helping that now, but we damaged a lot of new players before that came into place. Ramping guns are very intimidating, and I know I always go out of my way to be friendly and take it easy with new players but that is not always the case. Heck I even usually trade my gun with the little kids to let them have fun shooting me with ramping while I try defend myself with a walmart gun that always seems to run out of CO2 about the time they hand it to me. Its all fun, but there are a lot of noob shooters out there that kill the sport.
thats just my opinion.

Amen to that, starting an Indoor would have been a joke back then.
Still, the sport as a whole is on a natural decline because of the economy. It's nothing I would worry about. Because if you love the game it will always be there for you. You might have to drive a little farther to find it for awhile, but it's still there. My attitude is that as long as I can afford to play and I can find people to shoot at I will never stop playing. If you have this same attitude the game will never die.

there "young kids" are pretty much all the guys from the old unlimited team. most of those guys are in college or have just gotten out. Plus you gotta think, when a D1 team pops up sponsors will be comming to them.

Paintball fields are dead, cuz they don't offer what the customers need. If you look at the areas that have lots of committed players, you have fields that offer excellent support and facilities for all players. Louisville has lots of growing teams, Cinci has alot of support, and with fields like Yellow Jacket and GAS, Northern TN has shown some great talent. All of the areas that you mention that paintball is "dead" have plenty of players and talent, we just choose to go play at other facilities due to loyalty, sponsorship, etc. I have 24 guys rostered from TN, central KY, Western KY and Indiana. All are dedicated and very competitive, but there are very few fields that offer what we need to be a competitive team. We drive to Louisville. If paintball is dead in KY, it is growing like wildfire in Louisville. 2 fields within 10 minutes of each other that give players everything they need, and they are both doing well. Maybe paintball isn't dead, maybe the fields just don't offer what the players need or want in most of KY.
