Help! Please!

I have a protege and the on/off direct mount screw is stripped. It seems to be stripped from the inside. It was turning out fine and then it just stopped completely! It wont budge one bit! What could i do? SHould i take it in? PLease post your ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Leafy helped look for balloons
if you can slide the direct mount off then you can screw that screw all the way out. most likely the head of the screw got mushroomed from it being tightened over time and cant fit back through the threads, same thing happens with rail mounts like the ndz ones when the ball bearing flattens out the screw.
