... I ran sata and power to each of my HDD slots regardless of whether they were currently in use.

That is actually really smart.

I think I just might do this next time I'm toying with things in there.

And like I said, you sacrifice cleanliness for ease of use. You having unused cables in place means that the system is not as neat as it could be. But, it is a lot easier to deal with.

With some cases, notably those with sideways drive cages, you could pull it off and still have it look reasonably cleanly. Especially with the SATA power cables where you just use the occupied drive spaces at the top and then you don't have to worry about running another power cable to each of the lowers.

For some people that is fine, for others it isn't. Regardless of your tastes, my original post:

It's preference.

I'm sure for some people that works out nicely, albeit it's not for most.

Yep.

I'm one of those people who wants to do it "all the way" if I put out the time to do something at all. In this case, that would mean that there's no hanging wires of any kind because, in my mind, I wasted my time by not doing it "right." If that makes any sense.

This is a character flaw as far as I'm concerned.

I did the same. I have a cover box that hides the sata and power cables, so it made sense to add the sata cables in all the slots even if they were not used. However, I see the why people would leave them out if unused wires are exposed or dangling. It's all preference.

It's good in some aspects but not for someone who's constantly toying with things.

Also, I'm starting my epic desk build. I figured this was appropriate countertop material to use for a geekzone.

I ****ing love it. Looks so techy.

It's a countertop, it's made to be able to wipe clean easily.

Might end up having to paint my whole room though. This is really really dark when you put it next to my walls.
