hamlet's insanity

so i was reading hamlet and was wondering as to what purpose his acting crazy serves besides to deceive Claudius and Polonius. It seems like he hints to every other some what important character that his madness is fake, so why continue the ruse?

Because if he continued to act mad people would just be like "oh, that retard isn't planning anything." It was also to keep... damn it what was that girl.. GET THEE TO A NUNNNERY, that *****, away from him, because **** WAS ABOUT TO GO DOWN.
