Army Recruiter here for your questions

I am currently on recruiting duty in Northern California (Bay Area). If you have any enlistment questions ask away. Please dont come in here flaming the thread I.E. saying all recruiters are liars, cuz personaly I dont care if you join or not. Yes ALL RECRUITERS HAVE A QUOTA aka a mission. Yes some recruiters will tell you what ever you want to hear. Again I personaly dont care if you join or not. I have my Gold Badge and the Recruiter Ring (the stuff that dont mean jack in the big Army). Ask away with your legit questionsand I will do my best to answer your questions.

My MOS(Job) 15T Blackhawk Repair
My past assignments 97-99 Aco 9/101 Ft Campbell KY, 99-07 Cco 1/160th SOAR Ft. Campbell KY
My Current assignment 07-10 US Army Recruiter
My Rank SFC E-7
Joined in Vallejo Ca. Oct 96 will retire Jan 2017

So I was going to drop a Recruiting packet but have less then six months on station (Grafenwoehr Germany) and so am on assignment. I read on the site that they can't pull me off orders and that I'd have to wait 12 months at my next duty station before submitting a packet.

Truth or shens? As in should I give it a shot anyway or would it be just a waste of my time?

When I volunteered that's what was told to me also, so it's true. Also the only cool thing about volunteering is you get to choose where you go, but don't volunteer through ask it's the same as being da select do the recruit the recruiter, now I'm going to ask you why are you going to volunteer for the most corupt command in the Army? It's not that bad recruiting you get out of it what you put in it.

I was going to volunteer so that I'd get stationed in Jacksonville where my kids are. I have been deployed for two thirds of my sons life and since his mother and I are no longer together it's not looking good for my being able to be any sort of dad to him should I get stuck anywhere further out than Bragg... even that is pushing it out to long weekends and holidays but Stewart is a no-go for me and unless I pick up my 6 in the next month or so my Section Sergeant time won't count so Cadre/ DS in Benning is kinda out of the picture.

I don't know if I'd like the job at all... I just want to be able to be there for the kids you know.

How was the 160th? I have always been interested in them.

If you volunteer remember to do it through the recruit the recruiter if you don't you won't get were you want to go. I got everything I wanted I'm 20 min from the town I grew up in and got the station I wanted. If I didn't get promoted out of a job I would still be in the 160th, it was my best assignment and I would take a rank reduction to go back. I was brought up in the Special Ops community and can't stand the regular army bs lol

Not as long as you are clear of your charges and it wasn't over 500.00

A Ranger is a Army Soldier so there is no difference, now as far as what they do thats where they differ. A Ranger is part of USASOC (United States Army Special Operations Command) and now as far as what they do I cant tell you due to it being classified. The Rangers are the Door kickers for the Army Infantry. They can be be one of several MOS's (Jobs) like cook, forward observer, infantry, truck driver, or communication jobs. To qualify you need to score over a 50 on the ASVAB in order to get it as a enlistment option, then you must pass ABN school and RIP in order to keep your Ranger option.

one prerequisite to be able to enlist into sniper school is for an enlistment option for "sniper school" to exist.

Can you enlist as a 68W with an option 40? Would you definitely be assigned to the ranger battalion if you passed airborne and RASP (RIP)?

Sniper school is NOT an enlistment option nor is it a job you get in the Army it is a ASI (Additional Skill Identifyer) that you can get in most combat arms MOS's. That's one of the things I hear just about every day out here "Hey mr recruiter I want to join as a sniper". First pick a job and then get to your unit then submit a DA Form 4187 (request form) requesting sniper school

Yes you can enlist as a 68W (health care specialist) with option 40 (ranger). You will have to pass Air Borne school and then you will be assigned to 75th Ranger Regt and then get put on a order of merit list for RASP(this what I was told from my last Ranger recuit I enlisted) any one one from BN please correct me if I'm wrong, but it used to be mos, abn, rip and pass all 3 then on to regt

I was enlisted previously and had a ship out date for 20091021. The 20th came along and I was on my way to MEPS when my recruiter got an e-mail stating I was pdq by medical because of my back. (Scoliosis) It's past 35 degrees (37 degrees to be exact) which was the disqualifying factor.

I've done two medical waivers both being declined on the basis that there is nothing further to review. This has been my goal since I was a kid, which wasn't too long ago, and I get ****ed over by something as small as 2 degrees? No lack of flexibility, mobility, and no back pain whatsoever. I have medical reports from numerous orthopedists stating so. I scored well on my asvaps, willing to take the 6+ years on my initial contract if that gives them any more incentive to take me, and I'm more than willing to go combat arms.

Anything I can do? I imagine going to another state and enlisting won't do anything nor would continually sending in waivers though I could. I'm planning on enlisting again every year but if it really is no use than at least I can save myself from re-experiencing MEPS.
