Exclamation Official Rules Thread, Read Before Posting!

Hello and welcome to Other Off-Topic: Politics, formerly known as Small Talk: Politics or more commonly just as ST:P.

This will be a clear and concise of a listing of all rules that are to be followed by users posting in OOT:P. This list is subject to change without notice so please review it as often as possible so that your posts and/or threads do no get closed and/or deleted and you avoid infractions and possible bans. (existing rules apply)

1) Civility is key to productive discussion, so please keep all debate as civil as possible. If you take issue with another users point of view feel free to express your opinion, however there is no need for insults of any kind.

2) Trolling will not be tolerated, if a user is making inflammatory posts please report them and one of the mods or forum captains will investigate and see if the post(s) and/or thread(s) violate any PbNation rules.

3) Spamming will not be tolerated, please report any spam you see (including 'chain' emails).

4) 'Ban On Sight' (BOS) users- If you suspect (or have evidence of) a user within OOT:P of being a so called 'BOS user' please report them.

5) (Part A) Please do not make duplicates of threads that have already been posted up, take a few minutes and search back to see if you can find a recent thread on the topic. This is to cut back on the amount of 'clutter' in the sub-forum.

(Part B) Please do not make 'leading' polls where a bias is extremely prevalent, that limits the discussion and causes 'flame wars' between users.

(Part C) If a thread is in the process of being derailed off topic then in most cases a warning will be issued (this is a courtesy), however if the thread is not brought back on topic it will be closed. Troll threads and inappropriate topics will be closed/deleted on sight and the creator may receive an infraction or ban.

6) If you see something inappropriate, such as a posted picture (drawing, photo, or the like) or in a users signature, avatar, et cetera please report the user/post in question so that a Moderator can look into it. This site is not used expressly by adults so its content must be appropriate for a variety of ages.

7) Linking posts/threads to your own blog is viewed as spam and is no longer allowed. If you wish to post something from your blog (and it is appropriate) please feel free to, however direct links meant to increase traffic (thus getting more money from sponsors/ads) will not be tolerated.

8) Contacting other users inappropriately through Private Messages is considered the same as if you post the photos/text within the forum.

9) This subforum is NOT the appropriate place to discuss the legalization or usage of illegal substances (including, but not limited to marijuana)- threads that do such will be deleted and the OP may receive a warning/infraction.

10) This subforum is NOT the appropriate place to ask for homework help of any form, threads doing such will be closed/deleted. There is a 'school help' thread in Small Talk, please use it.

11(Part A) Due to some confusion this is hereby the official rule on threads within Politics. If you are going to post an article/video, link to an article/video, or base a thread on any form of article/video then you MUST add commentary. Some may view this as an annoyance, however, it is to ensure that threads aren’t just “dead dropped” by the OP. Our goal is to put people into a position where they must think critically about facts, research, media articles, etc.

As for discussion of a precise number of sentences (as of 6/16/12):

(Part B) Knowingly violating this rule will result in a warning or infraction (which may result in a ban).

This list is subject to change without notice.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about these rules please contact a sub-forum Moderator or Forum Captain.
