I watched the video tour. The bolt is so thin! It must weigh close to nothing.

haha, I'll have to weigh it. actually i wanna do a full reciprocating mass and figure stuff out...

it's 1/3 the mass of the spring right? IIRC that's what we were told in physics.

Wouldn't it depend on the spring itself? I would assume 1/3 would be a good estimation in general though.

apparently (my physics lab prof taught me this) that someone a long time ago worked it out with calc and you use 1/3 of the mass of the spring as reciprocating.

<-- would like to see that derivation! Might give it a go myself later.

So what do you guys think about possibly making the body for an aedes out of two pieces of round stock instead of a merlin extrusion. Kind of like how the t2 is made and the way to secure the bolt group could be built into the body?

More than doable. The hardest part is making sure you have the wall thickness and a way to retain the two tubes together while ensuring there is no "roll" of the upper and lower tube by a bending force. It might be easier to put a "spacer" between the tubes that a threaded screw and O-ringed air passage can connect the two tubes, otherwise you'd have to have a relatively thick walled pipe that has a milled flat on the top portion of the lower tube and the bottom portion of the upper tube. This begs the problem of having connecting screws too far apart that the pipe/tube can separate near the middle.

Z-Force Cocker also was two pieces and the T2 prototype has a spacer in between.

Looks like there is something I need to start working on in solidworks. I was thinking of just having flats but a spacer might be better now that I think of it.

Best part about a spacer is you can use it as a rail for air movement up to the valve transfer point, which could allow you to open/close bolt if you like.
