I didn't punch a single one... I kicked them with my Ranger Legs until they were retarded then used "death blossom" to put them out of their misery.
But really... that place sucks serious balls but the tab is worth it.

I can't really say what the hardest part was. I can tell you about a few specific days that sucked more than others.
There was the first actual day of Darby, I wasn't use to... well Ranger school yet and so I hated every step, every hang up, everything there was about that day. Our movement back took us over some ridiculous muddy trails that really kicked my ***... that was when I decided I'd quit in the morning (key... always quit in the morning because you won't actually do it).
There was our first movement in Mountains. I had 500 some odd 240 rounds in my ruck/ ammo bag climbing up "Winding Step" or whatever that God forsaken mountain is called. It was stupid cold out and you just never stop moving up the side of this near vertical hill... when we finally got to the top and set into our patrol base is when we got really cold. We were all covered in sweat, in the freezing cold and now we were laying on the ground pulling security. Thankfully I was on a gun team so we all just snuggled and got warm. If you go when it's cold out and think you won't snuggle with another man you are mistaken.... Ranger students are like ****ing penguins in the cold.
Then there was the time that got me closest to quitting. The worst few hours of my time spent there. In Mountains the RIs cause breaks in contact during night movements on purpose then they get all pissed off about it (all part of the game). One time they tied us all together. They take your 150ft mountaineering rope and tie one end to the first mans ruck... then they run in through the next mans ruck so he's stuck about two feet behind the first and so on and so forth with the rest of you. Then you have to continue moving to your patrol base that way. No one can see **** because there is like zero illum up there, every time someone moves in a direction or speed that doesn't match everyone else everyone gets jerked around... like into trees, rocks, thorn bushes... whatever. You are constantly being run into ****, jerked around, you can't stan up straight because no one is the same height, if someone within four or five guys eats **** you are going down too... Jesus just thinking about it makes me ill.
There are plenty of ****ty days, like the vast majority of them. No one can really tell you how bad they are... you just have to be there. Just remember that if you go then you don't ever ****ing quit... 'cus then you are not only going to go back a Tab-less ***** but everyone will know that you are a quitter... and what CO or 1SG or PSG or Section Leader or PV2 driver respects a quitter? None.

I'm still a 19d, I now have the skill identifier of "G" (because I have yet to attend airborne school... once I do that I'll be a "V").

Your recruiter was talking about RIP on an infantry contract. Any combat arms can go to Ranger school but they need to put in a packet and be selected by their unit to get a slot, you can't get it on initial entry.
RIP is a short selection course for Ranger regiment soldiers, Ranger school is a leadership course for NCOs and officers.

Did you have to memorize **** or take classes? Or is it all physical?

As stated previously that's the pipeline to Ranger Bat. There are actually lots of MOSs that go through it... anyone assigned to the Ranger Bats, Infantry... FOs... Supply... Commo and whatever else. You would go to Ranger school about two years after getting to your unit. You either pass or get kicked to the regular army.
I have been in the Army for four years. My Brigade put together a selection course for guys that wanted to go to school so I volunteered. As far as enlisted guys go the most of the junior guys were Specialists, a few PFCs but mostly E4 and up.

There were a bunch in my class... perhaps half. They do well and never quit.

You do both. You have to know the Ranger Creed first of all. There are a bunch of classes, movement... patrol base... raid... ambush... blocking positions... air assaults... Op Orders (that's the worst one because it's so ****ing huge). Usually you are struggling to stay awake through the classes. You need to know your **** because you never know what leadership position you will get graded on. I got to PL slots in Darby, two SL in Mountains and one SL slot in Florida. You can usually get one "no-go" per phase but sometimes they give you two or perhaps three looks if there are enough slots.

The two years is spent in a Ranger Battalion... like berserker said ranger school is a leadership school for NCOs and Officers, it's not for brand new Privates.

You would spend it in a Ranger Bat doing what they do. Lots of training, 4-6 month deployments in support of CAG, Group and other folks like them.

Blackberry Jam is so much better than peanut butter.
Good to hear it all went well! Much respect for you. I talked to a guy here waiting to go to Airborne school who went through RIP, it sounded insane.

Thanks, I hear that RIP is a rough ride.
As my old CO says... "It's all about what you want."

Is RASP now and it's 8 weeks. And you have to be airborne qualified before going through RIP/RASP so I'm not sure who you were talking to nalayah
