Rowing Machine Workouts

I saw that this was briefly discussed in another thread, but i wanted to know more specifically about cardio on a rowing machine. My school has two fairly decent rowing machines in its gym, which I've been using for the past couple weeks, but I've mainly just been doing a quick Tabata-style workout before moving on to other things.

So, does anyone know of other effective workouts that can be done on the rowing machine?

any type of cardio is based on your heart rate.. you need to find your resting heart rate and your maxmium (220-age) then do it by % basically you want to achieve anywhere in the 70-90% of you maximum.

In other words rowing machines can benefit your cardio

Agreed.

I also use the ellipticals and bikes to warm up sometimes. Gets me loose without making me tired. I don't use that nonsense for cardio though.

I use them for intervals, it's a good way to break up the running. I don't know if i'd want to do standard cardio on them.

Who revived this retarded thread?

well, if its a warm-up 10 minutes with a 20 second sprint with 40 second "paddle" (meaning just pulling the handle with no strength)

if you are going to try and make it a short workout, you can do a 2k which took my dad (a non-rower) about 9 minutes,
or you can do 5 minutes on, 3 minutes off for 5 pieces with higher rates (going up and down the slide fatser which there is a number in the top right corner of the screen that shows how many strokes per minute) porbably be around a 27-33.

long workout, you could do 20 minute intervals with 5 minutes off (strokes per minute should be around a 24-26)

if you want me to give you details like the numbers you should be pulling or stuff like that i can help

I am only familiar with doing cardio on the tracks/sidewalks/streets like a normal human. Not sure why fat people need all these fancy machines to sweat on.
My gym was just renovated, and one of their main highlights was putting tv's on all the new cardio equipment. It makes me so sad how our society cant go a damn hour without television.
