Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Has anyone else read the book(s)?

I loved parts of it, and other parts were so boring I had to struggle through, but some of the concepts in it are amazing.

I'm seriously considering tattooing "So long and thanks for all the fish" on me.

Discuss.

Yeah, it turns out that the greatest test for anyone's intelligence is to have them read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If they read all 5(6 including Zaphod plays it safe) books and it isn't automatically their favorite book series of ALL time, you know they're a moron.

I made a thread on it back in the day, I've read the whole series front to back 16 times.

Nuff said.

It really changed my view on life. Now that, is a good, wholesome, completely insane book.

Edit: The tattoo should be 42.

Easily my favorite series ever--I've read it probably five or six times. I remember taking my towel with me to see the movie on opening day and getting a bunch of strange looks.

You guys know there's a towel day right?
You're supposed to carry your towel around with you all day.

And Bistro Mathematics was the best part. Oh. My. God. Yes.

Maybe your not reading far enough into it, its never boring, its just what he is trying to convey is little less obvious.

there were certain points in the book where it was monotonous to read. not boring, but certainly not easy trails.

Yeah. Agreed. Restaurant at the End of the Universe got really repetitive. But it was still good. The whole 'transport' part with the rock and roll band and the bunker was brilliant.

good god, I did my english final (college) of douglas adams.

I find that even his books that are not part of the trilogy are related in one way shape or form. His Dirk book "long dark teatime of the soul" is a phrase used in the hitchhiker trilogy.

they are very enjoyable books, Of which I have had to replace them three times. Only 16 times, keep on reading.

My thoughts on the movie: It was an insult to Douglas Adams.

I actually have the starship titanic video game!!!!

Boy, now that's some rambling on, sorry for it's lack of resemblence to the english language.

omgomgomgomg. dude, first off, I just started reading the series two days ago and am about half way through restaurant. I was just in the philosophy subforum where I decided to see if there was a thread about this book because it was so good. but prior to this, I decided I wanted to get "so long and thanks for all the fish" tattooed on me.

GOD DAMN major coincidences.

But seriously, after I read it, I am going to get so long and thanks for all the fish tattooed on me.

weird....

I have a t-shirt that says "So long and thanks for all the fish."

I suggest you guys buy that instead of getting it tattooed. And then get a tattoo of 42, which would be way cooler.

Its been awhile since I've read through em, its getting to be about that time again though. Anyone else have the big tome with all 5(maybe 6, don't remember if it has Zaphod plays it safe in it) books in it. Giant paperback thing. Also, has anyone played the text based adventure game? I'll see if I can find it quick, but I'm at work so its unlikely if I'll be able to. That game is retarded hard, maybe I just don't know enough about the books.
Edit: http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocom.php
and it works at work

Yes, I am reading the volume in one paperback - which does include Young Zaphod Plays It Safe.

So I was right when I suspected you of being slow from noticing your improper use of the section symbol in your name.

Punctuation is to be used effectively, not for you to make your name 'prettier.'
