Mech'd Ion How to

Since I was asked to post a "how to", here it is.

Parts needed
Clippard SMAV3 three way valve, clippard QEV, 2 banjo fittings and a T33-2 T fitting.

Mount the smav 3 on an angle piece of aluminum.
Place the T fitting close to the rear banjo fitting but far enough away that the frame will not get in the way of the hose going to the SMAV3. The hose from the T fitting goes to the In on the back of the SMAV3, hook up the hose from the QEV to the N.O. barb on the SMAV3.

Locate the SMAV3 Acuater pin to the back of the trigger, drill and tap the frame for a set screw to hold the angle into place and hook up your connections. Adjust the trigger to have contact with the acuator pin (but not depressing it).

www.airsoldier.com
www.clippard.com
you will be able to find the parts you need at clippard.com, Airsoldier will be cheaper but they are sometimes out of stock and do not carry the T33-2.

Sweet, man. 2 questions: How long/heavy is the trigger pull, and what's the approximate cost?

trigger pull is about the same as tippmann and cost varies you can get all the parts except the T fitting from www.airsoldier.com and save a lot of money in shipping or you can get them all from www.clippard.com and pay about 18 bucks in shipping. I bought a lot of things at once from clippard which made the shipping charge worth paying.

Well you save money on batteries, but other than that it is just for fun.

No, you just need to have a drill and the proper drill bit for the tap size.

I use it for reball and it shoots like a laser beam.

Plus you could shoot faster than 10.5 at a field/event that has that limit. Not a huge advantage, but you can get like 12 out of these things if the trigger is set up right.

Is the trigger pull stiff ?

Could you put a measurement on what you think the pull is ? ( mm )

How many shots can you get out of the tank you run and what size is said tank ?

Could you list the EXACT item numbers so I can buy the exact same items from clippard ?

DSDM, this is one of the cleanest mech conversions I've seen yet.

I have a theory on possibly lightening the pull and at the same time maybe giving a bit more control over the air flow. If anyone remembers the LPR conversion that Andy did some time back, I think that the addition of an LPR might actually have an advantage here. I may be wrong.

But doing it would be simple. Drill and tap the ASA to accept the LPR, and run the front banjo directly to the rear banjo. Then run the LPR output to the 3-way. You can then tune the LPR to cycle the bolt, and it should help efficiency a little, and maybe lighten pull at the same time. With a little extra effort and some creativity (I have an idea!), a small enough LPR could even be housed in the frame where the board and battery used to be.

I'm still waiting on Ballers Inc. to send my damn frame, and I've still got my GCPB kit. I might make an attempt at doing an LPR'd mech once I get the frame in.

The trigger pull isn't that bad, But it isn't like the micro switch either. I use it for Reball and even when my team is using their electros against me I don't feel out gunned.

How many shots per tank can you get with this, would efficience be cut in half? I'd have someone time you with a stopwatch to see how fast it will go thru a hopperfull to figure out what kind of ROF it's capable of and post on you tube.

it will shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, i only play pump so i was only able to get about 10 bps at best with mine, i will let my buddy try to walk it, he plays semi and i am sure he can get higher then 10, i dont expect to ever see drop off because mine has a stock class feed so i really cant shot to fast

Not going to happen guy. I dn't have the time nor the connection speed to load videos onto the web. I normally fire about 8 BPS, my son peaks at 19 BPS but averages 14 with our electos, with this he is still able to get over 10 bps but it takes some getting used toso you don't hold down the trigger too long or short stroke it. There is a video of a guy getting 14 BPS (goldwaved)with the same set up. As for shots per tank I play reball with it so I couldn't tell you how many balls per tank it gets I have my own bulk tank, so that never really mattered to me. I can play for or 5 games wth my 70/4500 before I feel the need to fill it back up.
