Anyone tried making some sort of sleeve or cartridge for launching grenades or multiple paintballs?
Most fields won't let you launch grenades as they are too much mass to hit someone with. Especially at close range. Even at a distance we had incidents taking masks off peoples heads. No injuries but was God's warning it might not be a good idea. Not to say a good baseball arm couldn't do the same thing. Wish they would require neck straps to keep masks on peoples heads. Seen dozens over the year and lost mine once. Ran into one of my own players and a tree branch took it off. I have a chin strap now.... A good idea for everyone since at scenario games there are things flying around other than paintballs.......
Once upon a time, in the decades BN (before nerfs) the standard round was a Styrofoam cup filled with 20 paintballs. Depending on the brand of cup, they may need to be trimmed to fit the bore. Saran wrap to cover the cup and hold the balls in place. Just about everything was a muzzle loader back then so the cup had to be small enough to drop into the barrel or take your chances with some sort of push rod thingy.
Simularly, due to the mass of 20 paintballs, we were not allowed to shoot at player with them. The circumstances that they would be likely used would be close ranges.
There were HUNDREDS of variations tried using different stuff trying to tighten up the 'pattern' to get more range for 5 breaks on a tank for a kill. None were successful. They broke half the paintballs in the barrel and the rest came out like a sawed off shotgun going every which way.
Folks tried every possible combination of materials to reduce the ball breakage in the barrel was tried. Flour, sawdust, stryofoam peanuts, you name it. Again, little success. Some times they had too much success and the cartridge was a solid object. One went through the windshield of Bill Bailey field tank striking the head rest of the vacant passenger seat. Was not at a game, thankfully. Bill immediately came out with constructions standards for those kinds of rounds...
But I have prototype II built that would solve that problem IF I could get it to work. It was not successful. Solved the ball breakage issue but not the sawed off shotgun effect. I was hoping for a 100 yard range anti tank weapon... Haven't given up on the idea. Proof of concept with prototype I was successful. 5 paintballs, one right behind the other about two feet apart going 200+ fps with the accuracy of a marker. Tried to put 4 of those together for a total of 20 balls. No luck so far...
