Video Camera Part Replacement Question

First let me start off by saying that i failed hard.

My teacher and I have a pretty good relationship. One where he lets me take the really nice camera out on weekends where it's not needed for a real project. However, when i bring the camera back i doubt that will be the case.

The camera was on it's tripod, and i picked it up to move it a couple feet. I heard a snap, and the camera would no longer balance. It wasn't the screw that broke, but the thing inside the camera that the screw screws into.

Now here's my question, ST. Is it possible to replace that part or am i going to be buying a new four thousand dollar camera?

You should talk to him first and tell him what exactly happened. He may have it insured. From what I understand, the tripod mount is built into the main frame of most cameras, so it would be quite a bit of work to replace.

it's probably repairable by the manufacturers service center, so it shouldn't cost you a new camera but if he doesn't have it insured it probably won't be cheap.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

I've seen this happen. Its a pretty simple fix, but it'll have to be taken in to get it done.
