Gruntbull Wrecked My NYX

So first and foremost I am not posting this to “try and get back” at gruntbull for wrecking my NYX Matrix I am simply posting this to inform people of my experience with Gruntbull Anodizing.

I will start off with the back story, I had my Dragon Intimidator anodized by gruntbull just over 2 years ago and was very happy with the results. When at the field people would ask where I got it anodized I told them it was done by Gruntbull anodizing. My NYX Matrix was always a backup to my Dragon, so when I had some extra money I decided to put it into the NYX. I sent it in to **Entropy** for milling to have the Ultralite milled out to bolt onto the body.

When it came to getting it anodized I didn’t even have to think about who I was going to have do the work as I had a great experience with gruntbull in the past. So I got the NYX all packaged up and sent it out.

5 weeks go by and nothing from Gruntbull, I e-mailed them up asking what the progress was and didn’t get a response. A few days go by and I decided to check out PBNation to see if anyone else was having problems contacting them. That’s when I started to see that there was a problem when I read tipp98chopshop thread. So I slept on it and the next day I e-mailed Gruntbull up and asked them to send back my NYX and give me a refund.

Within 12hrs I received an e-mail back saying that my NYX was done the night before and it would be shipped out on Saturday. I informed them that I was concerned about it as I have had the NYX since they first came out with the toxic breeches and I had a lot of sentimental value for it. I was told everything was fine and I would be very happy with it.

About 2 and a half weeks go by and I receive a delivery notice from the post office. I go it to pick it up and I find out that I have to pay $69 customs charges because Gruntbull put the wrong value on the package.

I was quick to open up the package as I was very excited to see it, like a 9 year old on Christmas. When I opened up the body I was speechless, there was a hole in the body. I basically didn’t even know what to say, than I started to look at the fade and was just appalled at to what Gruntbull has done to my NYX.

The fade looked very sloppy and unprofessional, like if you turn it on its side the black looks like it “mountains” over top the blue, very inconsistent. I got the exact same fade as I did on my dragon, so I am measuring the fade as compared to my Dragon.

I was quick to e-mail gruntbull asking what have you done to my NYX? I got an e-mail back stating that it was an old marker and there was pitting to I am stuck with it. Than there was a week or so of bickering and pointing fingers before I got a phone call and e-mail from Todd. He basically said he wants to make things right and offered me $100 for a new body and 15% off my next visit with them. Than there was more bickering on my end because I was very unhappy with the service they left me stuck with. Todd told me that $100 for a body is fair and that’s his offer. I told his to send the $100 and I was very unhappy with what he had left me with.

Within 12hrs I received $99 back in my paypal from them, ($95.83 after paypal fees).

Now I am not trying to make this look completely one sided, my NYX had a big scratch in it on one side and Gruntbull did a fantastic job of buffing that scratch out. The scratch was on the same side as the hole but was about 2inchs away from where the hole is.

Again I am not making this post as a “try and get back” at gruntbull for wrecking my NYX Matrix I am simply posting this to inform people of my experience with Gruntbull Anodizing.

Heres some pics I took:

Very inconsistent fade and I don't understand why they'd send the bodies back with a hole in it... Honestly, I'm amazed they had the audacity to tell you that you would be pleased with the result...

Luckily enough it wasn't on the top tube. Still sucks either way, I'm glad to hear they tried to make it right with you.

One more nail in Gruntbull's coffin... it's a beautiful gun regardless of the crappy anno job, but is that hole going to affect anything? The fade isn't as bad as the one they did for tipp, but it's certainly not good.

It's as if they have a bunch of catchphrases assigned to buttons that they hit in order to write e-mails. "You are going to be very happy with this," yeah right.

Did you even bring up the customs charge that was THEIR fault? Honestly I'd be more pissed about something retarded like that than anything, that is 100% their fault and they can't weasel their way out of it.

loki32687: By pleased i think they meant that i was happy that the scratch was gone, but then they didn't mention anything about the hole that they buffed into it.

paintballer187: Yes, but if an area was buffed thin enough that it buffed a hole how is the rest of the body? will it hold air?

xXBloodLustACXx: Yes i did bring up the customs charges with them, when i sent to them i put the value at $100. When they sent it back they put the value at $500. When i asked it about it they said what did you expect me to do lie about it?

So, essentially, they gave you $26.83, 15% off your next order(If you choose to use them again and if they don't revoke it for this thread, that seems to be their way), an atrocious ano job, and a screwed up body....

Yeah, they half-assedly tried to rectify the situation...IMO they could have done far better.

Ti_G: Like stated earlier, if an area was buffed thin enough that it buffed a hole how is the rest of the body? will it hold air? I haven't had time to put it together completely so i won't know for a bit.

loki32687: I will never use them again so the 15% off means nothing to me. And i took the $99 before i made this thread because i knew they wouldn't give me anything if i made this thread right away.

ContractKiller88: No i didn't read the threads till my NYX was in their possession for 5 weeks.

_33: I know its a real shame as they did such a flawless job on my Dragon Intimidator just over 2 years ago.

More proof that you have a 50/50 chance of getting something decent out of GB. I hope this matter gets resolved for you because that sir is a beautiful gun and a classic. GB should be ashamed that they'd do such a thing to such a great gun and then knowingly send it back to you like that.

warbeak2099: Unfortunately nothing more will be done about this, $95.83 was all they were going to give me and i took it because after i made this thread i knew they wouldn't be so willing to try and make things right. And like a few people have said in this thread already $95.83 is far from enough to get a new NYX body, have it milled for the Ultralite frame and than have it anodized by someone who is compatint enough to do the job right.

Not to be combative.. but isn't it just the frame and Va that needs to be milled for the frame to fit? Nothing on the actual body?

Also is the hole clear through the marker or is it just a pit?

Was the marker a polished anno before? if so I wouldn't worry about the integrity.

BTW people for he love of god stop taking pics with your damn cell phone. Borrow a friends, borrow your parents, hell go to a pawn shop and get one for 30 dollars and take a good picture.

They did the same thing to one of my Vikings. Sent it back (after 5 months) with holes right through the body/air chambers. Didnt say a word about it.

Contact the BBB. There's no reason you should have to choke down $95 for a ruined body that is ridiculously hard to find a replacement for. I mean you can't just go on ebay or the B/S/T's and find another NYX body. And THEN you'd have to have it milled again. $95 is almost an insult after they sent you a product that they knew was damaged. Definitely get in touch with the BBB, others already have done the same and gotten results. Frizzle did:
