First time threading in air...

Just bought a gun off of here and have no idea how it was previously setup. Would it be wise to completely turn off the regulator under the grip the first time i screw in my air tank? and then once it's attached slowly open the reg up to the recommended 190-200 psi? Any other tips would be great!

No. just go ahead ans screw in the tank and see where the pressure is. Then go from there.

So, lets say last guy who had the gun had no idea about the 200psi limit and had the reg let loose all the way to 600 psi. It wouldnt do anything to my gun when i screwed in a fully pressurized tank? It seems to me it would, at least it would make sense that it would unless i'm missing something here?

That does sound like a good idea. To turn the regulator pressure down turn the brass adjuster piece counter- clockwise. Just turn it until it resists then screw in your tank. Be sure not to exceed 200 psi.

Be sure to shoot a couple shots after every 1/4 turn or so. Good safe thinking on your part.

It shouldn't have any trouble adjusting the pressure on the gauge while going up, that's only going down. Unless you're referring to something else?

well if ur that worried about the reg being at 600 psi u should realize the gun is also gonna be damaged already...unless u think the guy who sold u the gun is sabotaging it or something...cause what ever its set at is where he has prolly been playin with it...so i would rather see what hes been playing with it at rather than not know...but thats me personally

But it will only do more damage to put that much pressure into it, again. If there is a problem with the gun afterward we will be able to know what the problem is and be able to get it fixed.

I def recommend it. I just bought a Mini off here, and the (insert expletive here) who messed with it before me had the reg turned up way too high and it started going haywire. If it is up to high you run the risk of damaging the noid. There's no way anyone would just turn up the pressure not knowing what is going on. The marker will bleed off excess air if its not too high, and it will go nuts when you get really high pressures.

So I took my advice, air'ed up the tank, screwed it in. Slowly brought it up to the 190 ish psi and the mini shoots like a champ! it's ridiculously fast, even when walking in semi-auto! Thanks for the tips

It's a few simple turns to keep from possibly having to replace internals. There's no reason not to do it really.
