or at the very least, include the "ez bump" with ASM
because then, they don't have users paying an extra $30 for it

We didn't include it automatically because some people are not eligible for this program. We didn't want to complicate ASM or turn people away because they wouldn't be able to take full advantage of it.

We also couldn't run both programs at once. So we discontinued the one virtually no one was using. If you took advantage of the old Trusts, that's excellent. We think you'll find this new way gives you more bang for your buck.
  • The new badge works on unlimited threads
  • Header displays with every thread you create anywhere on the site.
  • Badge displays with every post and in your profile.
  • Icon displays to people browsing the forum who haven't even clicked on your thread.

Plus, you save more on this program by being ASM than you did with the old one. You saved $6.70 a year with the old way (5 x $1.34) and you save $8 a year with the new one. And that doesn't even take into account the additional ways this displays and how it will show for every thread you create instead of just 5 threads.

so ASM payments come through paypal right? technically, you COULD automatically do it if the member IS eligible, could you not?

ASM doesn't check for verified status or a confirmed address. Giving all ASMers the badge would defeat the purpose of it. Giving some the badge and denying others would make them feel they weren't getting the full value of ASM.

Sure. And you'd have money left over. Do your math again.

and giving the ability for someone to buy a "trust" badge defeats the purpose and cheapens the meaning of it too. There are MANY people with 50+ feedback, why not give it to them?

A LOT of people are on here or got on here for the BST forum. so I would venture to say that people with large amounts of transactions contribute to this site too. but I guess just not monetarily...

That brings me to Gold ups! Remember back when they actually meant something? now they don't really do as much as they used to, because everyone and their mom uses them.

Sure thing Kyle!

I agree it should be earned as well. Make the credentials pretty intense.

The BST Trust thing I could care less about. Im not going to buy it, within a couple of months people will learn that buying trust doesn't mean the person is trustowrthy anyway and the badge will mean nothing.

But I think all users, atleast ASM, should get the EZ Bump feature.

However, I really do like the idea of earned Trust. We need to put some work into that.

We also never seriously considered making a forum for only Trusted members. Do you think people would use it? Were you thinking regular users wouldn't be able to view it? Or only Trusted members could start threads?
Yeah, after I wrote that I thought about that as well as it would be way too labor intensive to "review" applications as well as having to interface with another feedback system such as Ebay where then you run into an issue if the Ebay user feedback is actually the same person who is on PbNation.

As another member suggested, I think once a user hits a certain amount of feedback they should get a system generated message asking if they would like to apply for the trust badge and if so one of the stipulations would be they have to be a subscriber as well. I don't think they should have to pay extra for it though on top of their annual subscription. This is just a way to pay back users who make the B/S/T forums a positive environment and to further weed out the problem users.

As far as the special forum goes, this wouldn't be very popular if only a few users have the badge so I guess you'll have to find a nice balance of minimum amount of feedback points to make it so that it's not extremely high so only a few users have it and also it's too low that every person and their grandma has it now (effectively not achieving hardly anything).

Another suggestion is possibly having multiple levels of a trust badge. Say for instance once you hit 20+ feedback you get a junior trust badge. Once you hit 40+ you get an experienced trust badge and if you have like 75+ you have a senior trust badge. Of course those feedback point levels are just suggestions. Now if you have this type of trust system in place you could setup a special forum only for trust members where only they can start a thread and anyone can respond to them as there will be several members with this type of badge. I think they'll still be plenty of members for the other forums to be very active but this will just create a "safer" environment for a member if they just need to buy a new marker and don't do much buying / selling but want a safe and effective seller to deal with. You could actually work out the Paypal confirmed address into this as well somehow.

Sorry if this was a little long winded.

for the people saying "if someone has 100+ feedback, why not give it to them for free" thing, there is always a first time for everything, including scamming. and plus, pbnation gets money to keep the site up and running.

i think its a great idea and will probably purchase this and ASM once i get a job

The $30 a year alone for asm is not enough? Not including all the money they get from gold ups. I'm not trying to be a dick but I lost stuff that I bought because of this and that's not right to make pay even more(when I already pay $30 a year) for what was rightfully mine.

It may take time to verify it I'm sure.

EDIT: I was kinda right.

No, you failed to read the instructions thoroughly and applied when your paypal account is unverified. You're going to get a refund processed manually by CS and you can reapply when your sure your account is verified and confirmed.

I don't get how you could still stop a scammer from changing his address before he makes a deal (since I changed my address (completely new and half the country away) for this vacation I am on and immediately sent payment to someone and it still said I had a confirmed address, visa-versa as well. Is it just me or does it do this for everyone? At first I thought this idea was fantastic but now I am starting to see some flaws in it. To be honest I don't think I should even qualify to buy this badge considering I have a negative feedback (for backing out of a deal for all reasons ) and I also don't think that people with less than say 40-50 feedback all positive should be able to apply for this badge. I just don't see what stops a new member from changing his address, buying the badge, and scamming people. It offers me no trust to other users at all.

Let me know if I said something incorrectly, hell I can try it right now if you would like (change my address to some crazy address across the US where I don't live and see if that is the only address you have on file or if you have others, etc).

The trust subscription does not start if you aren't verified and confirmed. You can change your address all you want, but if its not confirmed then it won't start your subscription. If your address is confirmed, we capture that information when you subscribe, you can't just put in any old address and have it work.

So I verify my address, then before buying the badge, I change my address, and you have address #2 "on file" and not the original...
